Exactly.
When I used to fix PCs, albeit something I escaped from in the mid 2000s, it was not unusual to find PCs running, Norton, McAfee, Avast, AVG and all the rest infested with Malware, not the AV programs fault they were are all IMO pretty much of equal capability but caused by the users downloading from dodgy pirate sites, file sharing, disabling the AV because it was blocking something they were downloading and such or installing pirated copies of Windows with "extra features" or clicking on a too good to be true offer.
The biggest cause of Virus infections IMO is invariably between the keyboard and the chair.

I think your missing the point Dennis, what I am saying is which ever AV you choose you must feel confident in it's ability to protect you regardless of cost as there are so many makes all so similar

Just curious how does Microsoft's data mining work on our PC's? Assuming they use the CPU but how often and how long, especially for insiders?

Well I think the post has run its course. Interestingly I've read posts that show how to remove the service, non compatible computers and that it is opt in only.
Not one person has said that they liked the idea of the option to have their AV mine for coins on their computer. Says it all really.

You're right it's run it's course. You don't mine for coins but Ethereum. I don't think anyone was in favour of having the option to mine with AV. You can tell by the posts that it clearly not understood by most people.

The big thing is you have to turn it on and you have to have a PC that meets the specs.. and with the GPU needing at least 6GB of DRAM it's going to limit the number of people effected.

Yes also Jeff I think a lot of people didn't realise that you have to have an account (wallet) with pass key etc. also Norton taking 15% wow most companies take 1 or 2

Many just reacted and hate businesses without thinking their reply through. Yes.. it's really an odd place to add that but no one has to use it and they can't just activate it. That would be illegal

I don't really want to mine via my AV.. there are better ways to do that.

I don't want to mine at all:) I saw in one article a guy who was testing it all out made 66 cents and it cost him 66 cents in off peak electricity

So in the end it was just a fun exercise. I simply wish people would take the time to do some research into mining before they think this is a good idea. It's not for an individual to do.
