Solved Norton and Crypto mining.

Apparently Avira is doing it also. From what I understand for what you burn in electricity mining it is not even worth it , most times you don't even break even. AV companies take like a 15% cut also.

That is very underhanded of them. Installing somethiing and not being upfront about it.. good thing I just use defender

That's what I've read. You really don't make much as an individual doing mining.

From what I understand , it does not automatically run, you have to make it run , I have Norton 360 and in order for me to run it I have to add crypto to my services. Doesn't automatically run , so you do have the choice ..... at least for now.

No link but my brother was installing it last week and it came up on the splash screen, as above does he want to run it or not

IMO, I wouldn't waste my pc's resources and electricity with it, you will never make enough to even make up for the wear and tear on your CPU, let alone pay for the electricity doing it. This is just a ploy by the AV companies to pull in cash because with Defender being just as good or better , paid AV is going the way of the DO DO Bird, they are losing $$$.
I know ..... I am using Norton 360 , only reason I am using it at the moment is I got it REAL cheap and it does not put a real big load on my system, so I figured I'd run it , used to run it years ago.

Probably included with the installers now, when I installed mine , the option was not even there, If I want it I have to download from Norton and add it , which I am not going to do.

Although I am certain before my subscription runs out I will probably get a UI update asking me to add it ... lol

You really are tearing down your GPU rather than the CPU. Mining uses the graphic card to make use of the faster processor and memory. In either case it's a waste of time for the average person. IMO

My thoughts exactly, you'd need an army of GPU's mining to make anything and even if you did .... think of the power consumption ..... will you still make anything?
I've read stories about mining operations tapping into power grids to steal electricity to mine, so my thoughts are, even if you do it legally , you're still just gonna break even ... IF you're lucky.

So far from my understanding the miners are going to areas in say, the US, that have the lowest cost for electricity. One place is upstate NY and the other is TX. Given how they tax the power grid it could be catastrophic for some areas like rural areas in NY and given the power grid issues in TX that can be dangerous for the people there.

The only way I can see how you could make money is to have a farm with a massive number of GPU's and a source of power that cost you nothing.. say a solar one or even a watermill. The watermill could help augment the power requirements.

It just makes me mad when a big company does this.. they install things to a persons PC and really don't explain it to them. OH and on top of that it keeps running if you opt in.. even if your using your PC.

Norton Crypto Mining is turned off by default and cannot be enabled without your permission.

To DELETE it
Turn off tamper protection
delete file NCrypt.exe
Turn on tamper protection
Try this at your own risk, I tried it and it disabled smart firewall...may have been a coincidence

Even some routers and a lot of apps are doing it now I think the video has a bit of scare mongering in it

Bitdefender is not crypto mining, and doesn't have an option to enable crypto mining.
I've been using the paid version for 8 years. (Win 7, 10 and 11)

IF you find a link with proof... then by all means, post it. :)
