PC doesn't recognise new SSD!?

Just purchased 2 nice new 2TB crucial 2.5 inch SSD's. Plugged one in but desktop pc doesn't find it? Replaced it with the second one with same result.
Plugged in an existing 1TB Samsung SSD to same connectors all ok.?
Any thoughts?

plug the crucial USB SSD's back into the computer and open computer management
see if the disk's are shown there as they may need formatting for the system to see them.

Some (not all) SSD have to be formatted before the system will recognize them. I usually use gParted

To clarify, the SSD does not need to be formatted, but initialized, which is different. To format it means to create a partition, which is optional.

Partitioning and formatting are separate.

Both are necessary.

Yup. Windows can't use a drive that has no partitions or partition table.

If, for example, the SSD is to be used to replace a boot drive, by restoring an image to it, it is not necessary to format it. Any partition created will be deleted when the image is restored.

Also, the SSD can be initialized and formatted from Disk management. No third-party partition manager is needed.

The result will have a partition and format restored.

If you're doing a clean install of Windows, you can start with an initialized drive without partitions. The installer will create and format the partitions. The default for C: will be NTFS.
