Here's what I get on the old 3800X on Win 11 (before updates) on stock settings.

Given what it is I can't complain. The score is higher than my 6900K but the CPU is not nearly as reliable or stable. My Intel build can handle a much greater work load but it isn't a gaming rig either. The 3800X is married to 32GB of RAM. The 6900K build has 128. These piddling contests only carry so much clout. The main thing is whether your system does what you want it to do and if it does it in a reasonable amount of time without issue.

lol I'll feel good about my build when I can install Win 11 Pro on it in RAID 0 via NVMe. It's so much easier, I find, to run RAID on Intel systems. You have a sweet rig there, Lance. You have enough future proofing there to last you at least a decade and likely much longer. Still, after a couple of years you might want to test the limits on that CPU with a substantial O.C. Just a hunch, but methinks there's even more there than meets the eye.

Like @pparks1 I don't have loyalty to either AMD or Intel platforms. I have found that most video editors prefer Intel, partly because of the on chip graphics which speeds up rendering. I first went with AMD at a time when Intel seemed stuck on two cores, and AMD was offering multi-core processors at a reasonable price. That is no longer the case, but I'm still a little unsure of the low power cores in the latest Intel processors. When my current desktop reaches 'time to replace' age, I will review again, and carry out a cost-benefit analysis of each manufacturer.

To sum up, it's important to assess one's own specific use scenario and go with whatever's best. I'm sure @Lance1 will do that.

Ya! That O.C. Is years down the road and yes this system will run for yeas to come. And for O.C? If your a hard care gamer yes. I have a 4060 coming not because I need it but because I wounded it. "Big Difference" My system is all about power to the extent that I need it to be... And a bit more if needed. And I'm happy with that. And that should be the goal for all builders... To be happy with there build.

Why run Windows on a RAID 0 array with NVMe? I can only assume it's for speed, but you probably aren't even close to maxing out the speed of a single NVMe for booting and basic Windows operations, so I don't see the value in having multiple drives in a stripe. I could see it for a data volume if you were working with super huge data files, or had a database that needed incredible IOPS...but not the OS.

Why run Windows on a RAID 0 array with NVMe? The short answer would be because I can, but it would be the wrong answer because Win 11 on this build won't even let me get to first base. TBH I had more success installing the tweaked version on a non-complaint Intel build. When it warms up outside I'll break out the air compressor and tear apart my build, clean everything out and rebuild it again. Only one of my many works in progress.

Yes, I do move large files and I do it often. So that is certainly one of the cardinal features that I was sold on when I purchased this AMD platform. I do tend to lean toward old school habits and RAID is not an exception to this. At the risk of repeating myself, I'm the crazy old guy who does stuff like this:

Yes, I'm a data junkie and I have a ton of data to sift through and organize, a good deal of it still in cold storage. I'm also a family man so I provide my own 'cloud service' of a sort for four family members other than myself. So yes, I move a considerable amount of files and I have my work cut out for me. I'm also an amateur content creator and I run a page because we don't have a newspaper where I live. All of it is non-profit, but it's enough to keep me occupied. As a mild enthusiast NVMe in RAID presents a very attractive prospect. If I can't make it work in Win 11 on this AMD platform I will certainly be disappointed because it is supposed to be one of the features of this system board.

I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
Boot times don't matter to me. I'm happy to go make a cup of java and wait for my system to boot. Once my system is up and running I want the speed. I enjoy reading all the pre-boot info before I get to the OS. I'm one of those guys who deliberately maxes out the boot time in the BIOS. If I can't even wait a few minutes to read the information there's no point in building these extensive platforms. Patience is indeed a virtue. :-)

Looks very nice, but I can't contribute to an inflated ego without a little criticism. Your cable management needs work. There are better ways of dealing with that SATA cable. The criss-cross effect of tucking it under your power cable to the system board doesn't work. The same goes for that jiggly-azz fine fan wire. If you must have a cluster at the end of your Graphics card bring those jiggly-azz fan wires together into one cluster (zere are vase of doing zees.) That other power cable running at the back of your GFX card is better run on the flip side toward the side panel. No excuses! Macht Schnell! :cool:

* Again, that power plug would look so much nicer with a 90° elbow. I like my cheap Chinese model because it lets me know when I have full power to the board even when it's sleeping. The blue LED is only on when the system is powered up. The LED's are very tiny and discrete so they don't blind me. The picture doesn't do it justice. (And yes, I need to do something about those breakout cables. They really could be tucked up a bit more. Sadly, they're a lot stiffer than standard SATA cables. I'll deal with it after I tear the whole thing apart again.)

* Again, that power plug would look so much nicer with a 90° elbow. I like my cheap Chinese model because it lets me know when I have full power to the board even when it's sleeping. The blue LED is only on when the system is powered up. The LED's are very tiny and discrete so they don't blind me. The picture doesn't do it justice. (And yes, I need to do something about those breakout cables. They really could be tucked up a bit more. Sadly, they're a lot stiffer than standard SATA cables. I'll deal with it after I tear the whole thing apart again.)

Yes all those are valid points. You see I have a problem... I'm a Procrastinator. I'll go back to your post where you have that link to the 90° elbow and just order it. SO! I just have to suck it up and make today Cable management day. Or not...

I've been trying to get FanControl to recognize my RTX 4060 fans. But I was always getting this error "nvapi could not initialize or has no sensors" And 10 minutes ago as per this post my Dim Light Bulb turned on. My GPU is PCIe gen 4 and my vertical mount is PCIe gen 3! So I jumped into the BIOS and checked my PCIe settings and they were set to auto. Because my vertical mount in gen 3 I changed PCIe to gen 3. Saved and booted back into Windows and BAM! The GPU fans are recognized. At idle I was running at 43c and now that I have FanControl controlling the GPU fans I'm idling at 25c Hope this helps someone if you have the same issue.

I'm happy for your success. Being a a seasoned builder/enthusiast kinda/sorta guy with a history of trials and errors, successes and disasters, I am wondering to what extent this change in your UEFI (BIOS) will impact the other features of your board. I don't recall whether you purchased WD NVMe Gen3 or Gen4 but there is a possibility that you will not be enjoying the benefits of Gen4 on any of your PCIe by manually employing Gen3 on your system board. Admittedly, I've never done a build with a vertical mounted GFX card and you certainly have my attention. I'm aware of the fact that this option has been in existence for some time now. No one I have built a PC for has asked me for this and apart from aesthetics I can't think of any practical reason for doing so. Again, user preference prevails.

Just for kicks I'd try switching back to 'auto' just to see if it works with the auto feature on now that the third party software has been activated in that regard. Sometimes some of these apps need a kick start to get them going. Of course, if you have no use for any of the Gen4 features this isn't necessary. Your build is future proofed and as time marches on you'll likely be wanting to use those Gen4 features in your PCIe. My understanding is that you're also using Gen4 RAM but your board can also run DDR5? (Just some thoughts.) Thanks again, for sharing. (y)
