lol You sound like a buddy of mine. He's really obsessed with Mine Craft. I realize it's a game for kids of all ages. Just not my thang. If Coppertop wants to get an RTX she can grab a shovel and go door-to-door Mine Crafting the snow off the sidewalks and earn herself a GFX card. Should only take about a 100 houses or so.

Hahhah, I don't play MC Java at all, I do occasionally build some structures in MC Bedrock Edition with the kids. I keep the game vanilla though. The kids would love Java edition with all the bells and whistles added, but they don't have the hardware to support it either...

I should send them shovel some snow too.

I've done it twice now by upgrading Mobo/CPU/RAM. Never cross-platform though, always Intel-Intel.
Worth a shot! Let us know how it goes.

If all else fails, there's always the clean install option.

Yeah, I like to stick with Intel-Intel and AMD/AMD too. Stands to reason. BUT these days it doesn't seem to matter so much anymore. On older systems I tend to get issues with say an AMD GFX card on an Intel platform. I'm a little annoyed with Intel going uber proprietary with IRST and passing off Optane to Solidigm. I don't want to buy a NUC lol. NVIDIA works well with Intel but it's probably blasphemy to put an NVIDIA card on an AMD build so.... Not to say it isn't done.

Me? I'd do a fresh install. I think I mentioned this before. M.2 is fast and efficient — especially if it's NVMe. But if you insist on experimenting in the interests of science lol... Well, keep us posted.

Yup. For some reason pink is the colour that is most commonly popular among companies that try to trademark colours too. Even more interesting there is something called a "pink tax" where pink products generally cost more than the more standard counterparts. :::shrugs::: No idea how they come up with these ideas. Anything for a buck, I suppose.

I used the Samsung Data Migration to copy my Server OS on a Samsung 860 EVO SSD to the new 1TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD.
After some BIOS tweaks & disconnecting the EVO SSD the server booted & runs as well as previously, maybe a tad faster.

So here's where I stand. Restoring the old OS to my new system was a complete bust. Even the EaseUS Todo system transfer that was supposed to move your OS to new hardware failed. All said and done! Clean Install. The lazy sod lost... I have my old WD SSD in the new system so I have access to files and folders I had on it. My build is finished. Time to sit back and just enjoy it.

You'll probably be better in the long run with a clean install anyway.

I think I tried this about half a dozen times before I concluded that one cannot use a Windows OS installed on an AMD platform simply by transferring it to an Intel platform. But hey, one never knows. There's probably a way. I can only imagine the work that might be involved. I remember rescuing someone's files once by copying hidden files over to a half-baked Windows OS and then letting Windows "repair" the OS after rather crudely rebuilding it by dragging and dropping Windows Files to another drive. I'm thinking they snagged a zero day. It took hours of work but in the end it worked. I got all their personal data back, copied it to a storage drive and then wiped the abomination clean. I think that's around when I decided it was better just to purchase some software with teeth. (Which I did. But even that won't let me run an AMD based OS on Intel platform.)

Now you need to build up an archive on a separate drive for all your personal data still sitting on your AMD drive. It's drag and drop time! After this, it's backup, backup, backup (even if 60% of the time backups fail.) Once you've done all that then make an EXACT DUPLICATE, fully functional clone of your OS and tuck it away in a nice, dry, dark corner where you know you can find it if and when you need it. Don't ever, ever, ever solely rely on a backup. Keep your archives maintained and in the event your OS craters beyond redemption you can treat it the same way you did your old AMD drive. Plug it in and drag and drop. Once you're satisfied that you rescued all your personal data FORMAT that drive and clone away for another day. In other words, rinse and repeat, second verse same as the first. This way you lose NO THING. nada. not a single file.

One of my favorite things about a new build is starting from scratch and getting rid of the old cruft that I don't really need. Love having that super fast startup. It's always quickest right after a reboot. No matter how careful we are, and how much maintenance we regularly do, it always gets a bit slower with time.

I think you made the best call here.

Ya! You know if I didn't at least try.... That would be a sin. I am supper happy with the build. It's extremely quiet with the back cover and the glass cover in the front. Supper fast. Beats my old system hands down. As fare a backups go I have that covered. I use several HDD's for backing up and run them from a remote docking station. Once done They sit on the shelf till needed. O I do not copy & past I image. Reason? Compression. I can store more on an HDD with this option then just copy & past. I'm going to leave my old SSD as is for sometime. Yes I have images of it of course. Just incase your questioning. Thanks for the support and the congratulating.

Yes I agree. A clean install brings a system back to life. I have friends that clean install once a year! Ya, I'm one of those guys as well. I love testing software. I normally do it in a VM but sometime you need a live environment and not VM. It's part of the game. Yes! Software testing is a game.

OK! Problems... I got up at 3 am this morning couldn't sleep. I installed my USB 3.0 controller card that that I installed in my old system. Put in my old SSD. Moved the new system to its station and got into windows. I installed my Vivaldi and my Thunderbird email. Windows update says it has some updates so I ran it. can't remember the KB. So I took a pic at the uninstall. After the update things went for a Sh$#! My USB 3.0 card was disabled. Can't see any of my drives from my remote dock. Now I getting errors! the first one was... Machine-Check - Exception and the second was... Clock-watchdog-timeout which was at least 7 times. I uninstall the updates so we'll see if that was the cause. I do have access to my USB 3.0 card and now and see my drives so we'll see. Hears the pics for a visual. I Hate MS!!

Recommendation: Archive what personal files you have on ye olde AMD drive. You can use file compression if you want, but it's very important to get that AMD garbage off your system. Why keep it if you're not using it? Once you do this, format that old AMD drive and use it for your cloned copy of your brand new installation or whatever. You absolutely do want a copy of your new installation because backups cannot be trusted. Your other option is to keep the AMD drive as your 'backup' for your entertainment PC assuming it will still work there. Although you won't be able to run both OS (old and new) at once, at least you'll have a copy of your olde OS to use in case your entertainment system OS goes FUBAR. Keep the stuff that pertains to an AMD build off your Intel build and you will greatly reduce your odds of getting BSODs.
