Seven laptops in this house - five will run it, 2 won't. The two that won't will definitely not outlive Windows 10 so I'm not particularly bothered.

Eee I'm not sure about the overall look of Win 11. Looks a bit fugly to me - rather linuxy. I'm not thrilled to be losing my highly customised and super organised start menu either. I will definitely be employing a hack to revert to the Win 10 start menu if I upgrade.

What few origanal parts remain of an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 HP Computer circa 2008, no UEFI = Nope

Well both my custom rigs will run Windows 11 just fine .... but not sure I want to install Windows 11 when the time comes. Think I'll just wait and see how other folks like it or not. :)

My main rig R5 5600x which I use for development and still running Win 10 is OK, but my daily/test rig which I use (for banking on linux, testing previews, my apps etc) doesn't - but I found a place around the corner from me selling the TPM module for ZAR300 = US$21.50 - so will pick it up on Monday and see how we fare on the R5 1600X.

Well your motherboard does have a TPM header.
And you can select UEFI boot.
But I don't see your CPU on the list.

It passed that test, but the BIOS did not as it has no Secure Boot or TPM.

This is not going to turn out well for Microsoft, they will either need to support older gen CPU's or suffer the consequences, I see more systems failing for CPU compatibility than I see for anything else , TPM is really not the issue. Those of you trying to scalp TPM modules are probably going to lose money, if your pc is fairly new, you have TPM , it is just not enabled.
Half the world is not going to rush out to buy a new PC just to run Windows 11, and EVEN if they did, there is a chip shortage if anyone hasn't noticed, this will cause the cost of PCs to skyrocket as supply goes down and demand goes up because chip suppliers are VERY limited and will not be able to keep up with demand because chips are used in just about everything we use in modern life.

My CPU is well within spec to run Windows 11, I refuse to purchase a newer gen CPU just because they want me to.

I suspect somewhere between now and it's release , Microsoft is going to have to make a big decision

Agreed. In my case there is no way I will ever afford a modern equiv of my rig, I'm a pensioner now and broke.
I see online there is a way of purportedly defeating the installer but the technique is complicated,

I don't see the need to exclude certain CPU's specifically 'cause they older - unless there is technical reason for it , and if so why is the minimum speed requirement only 1Ghz then?

Recommended CPU's perhaps but total exclusion??

No it's not complicated at all - just swap the install.wim.

My MB Bios does not have Secure Boot as an option, and that is why many people will be disappointed.
Personally I think MS will have to change their mind since I've heard so many coimplaints about TPM MB's.

The swap method does is not bothered with any of the Win 11 proviso's - I installed the leaked ISO on 'old faithful' without secure boot etc - it's just a Win 10 setup that installs Win 11 instead.
