Safely Remove Hardware. Why Are Internal Disks There?

Hi all,

So in "Safely Remove Hardware And Eject Media", my mechanical hard drives are showing up (I have 3 of them). They are also in Device Manager as "Portable Devices". They are NOT portable, they are SATA hard disks in my PC. My SSDs are not there. How do I fix this?

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I don't know why, but this only removed one of my drives from removable. :unsure:

I fixed it. I edited the registry manually and now the disks are gone. Thanks for the help, @hsehestedt :)

I had the same problem with my computer with Windows 10. The problem with the methods shown in the references is it only helps with an SSD on one bus. The following post shows how to deal with drives on multiple buses.

Internal hard drives showing as removable in Windows 10

My computer has two Samsung 870 EVO SSDs. One is on bus #0 while the other is on bus #2.

I used the following command to fix the problem
reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device" /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d 0\02
Note for this to take affect the computer must be rebooted.
