My modem is the Arris Surfboard SB8200 and it is 3 years old for me. bought in 2022.
for upload speeds. and only supports 4 upload-channels..

the Arris Surfboard S34 model is support to support next gen upload speeds.

As for the download speeds not fully reaching 1,000Mbps,
its networking overhead as far as I understand.

You should get the speeds you are paying for. Your ISP should do something about it.

I am getting those speeds. well enough...
I am not using a Comcast modem/router unit, because I don't want to pay Comcast more money every month.. for a rental..

plus the coax line from the utility poll is long enough it might be causing issues
maybe as the DOCSIS 3.1 2x channels are showing significant errors corrected and uncorrected.

That's probably the reason why you are not getting the right speeds. You are not using the ISP's modem which are probably programmed/configured for their network for speed optimization.

Coax cable? I thought you have fiber? Coax is not capable of symmetrical speeds, is it?

There are some possibilities, it might be overhead, it might be your computer's NIC , if it's 1Gbps the max cou can get is about 930 Mbps, same thing if your router has only 1 Gbps WAN/LAN ports. By the way what is the nominal upload speed that your ISP is offering to you??

Over here with Cox San Diego, it's fiber at the pole then Coax to the house.
Coaxial length is about 15 meters or about 50 ft.

my integrated Intel NIC i211 is 1Gbps connection.
and the same with the router...
I really want to upgrade to a new modem and router and NIC..

That's FTTN (fiber to the node).
Mine is fiber to the home (FTTH).

Just had my connection increased from 400 up and down to nominally 1Gbps down and 800Mbps down. Free of charge! (for the moment). That's no increase in charge.

Have you tried any other locations or Poitiers is closest to you?
