Stop SearchHost.exe from running?

Not working, because you continue to see WebView2 processes under SearchHost.exe? Someone cross-posted this thread to Reddit about a month ago, and it worked for them.

Windows search acts like a normal process if Edge, Webview, Defender, CoPilot, SmartScreen, and all the other datamining code is removed or disabled. At least until the next update.. but there's a way around that too. Searchhost.exe never even starts, because it's just a shell to send your data to microsoft, whether you want it to or not.

Exactly. The behaviour is exactly the same after the reg edit.

Are you able to use the fix TairikuOkami posted previously in this thread?

Alternative: get NetLimiter (not free) firewall and it will notify you when SearchHost.exe tries to go online and you can block it (which is why I ended up here - to see if blocking it has any repercussions).

Yes, but this fix totally breaks the search.
My solution: I deleted Webview with AveYo Script. It lets the minimum trace of webview installed on the PC so everything else works. I just need to update it manually.

Rename the file msedgewebview2.exe to msedgewebview2 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\146.0.3856.84 folder
Activate the FILE NAME EXTENSIONS by right clicking and selecting SHOW file name extensions
You should be logged in as adminsitrator

Searchost.exe takes 0% CPU time on mine, and 34MB of RAM. As such I have no interest in disabling it.
Total RAM use by all items under 'Search' (7) in task manager: 138MB.

I find being able to
- search Settings
- use taskbar search or Win key S
- find files instantly by content

extremely useful.

Your needs may differ of course.
