Well it happened again today. When I turned on the computer it asked for my password. When I went to netplwiz it said users must enter a password, but it was still unchecked. What can I try next?

I may have solved the problem by telling windows to log in to a local account. I will see how this goes. I am running 11 home.

Ahh, that's the problem. MS is pushing this pin thing so hard they have made obsolete most of the methods MS account users have found around it.
I battled with it for days. I have Pro and managed to get mine turned off using group policy. However, the signin screen still had a nag to set up a pin which drove me nuts. I finally used netplwiz to automatically login with password so I didn't see the nag screen any more. I really do think that at some point MS will force everyone to use a pin whether we like it or not and wouldn't be surprised if they go so far as to remove automatic login as well.
