I just did the 24H2 update to 26100.5074 and now I can't log into my Windows 11 Network Computer that also did this update. I can still access the 24H2 that's on 26100.4946 but not the newly updated one. It gives the 'Enter Network Credentials' box. I'm using local accounts on both machines. Another computer on the network still works fine after the update but not these two. Tried everything I could find to fix it and still no luck. Does anybody have a fix?

It seems that update broke networking, i have 3 machines that updated, each would refuse to connect to each other without the failing credentials request, however each could connect to my 23H2 machine which also connected to them. For now i've rolled back each machine and blocked updates.

I spent hours on end researching this seemingly well know issue and none of the resolutions worked for me. I even mentioned it to a networking MVP here and he's unaware of this issue.

You are not alone. Same exact thing here and NOTHING fixes it. Not even the PC I am on shows up in the network! I have all my PCs locked to 23H but that can't last much longer.

There are several threads with help so I dunno why your Networking MVP isn't aware of this issue. Here is just one of them:

Everything was working two days ago with 24H2 until the Cumulative Preview updated to 26100.5074 yesterday. Two machines were affected but the other two newly updated 24H2 machines on the network were not. Still able to connect to the Windows 10 machines without problem. I spent hours going over everything I could find and still no luck. Not even setting up a user account with a password and trying to log in with that worked.

Thanks for your response. Did all that when 24H2 came out and everything was fine until yesterday and the new update. I went over all these settings again yesterday and they were all fine. We have two 24H2 computers that took the update yesterday with the same settings and were not affected.

I can log into Laptop 1 from Laptop 2 just fine and everything works but can't log into Laptop 1 from Desktop 1. The network credentials box comes up. Even tried creating a user account with a password on Laptop 1 and that doesn't work either. All are on the same build with the same registry and group policy settings.

I've had 24H2 for some time and networking worked as expected, this recent update dropped it flat on it's face.

For me....

I had my venerable N54L running Windows 10, installed around ten years ago and ran fine.
Machines could access it and it's shares, including RDC access.
Each PC machine was used with the same, mine, Windows account.

I have recently stopped using the N54L and instead gone to a NUC 100 with an attached DAS, for storage. The NUC acts as a media server.
But it is running Windows 11 Pro, 24h2 etc.

It has been horrendous in getting, remember same account, the shares to be seen. Then to be accessible and then for RDC to work. And to work consistently.

A combination of Power shell, Local policy editing, maybe some Regedits and other things have gotten it to the point of being functional. I do not know if it will last.

Are you getting an error message after a while, along with an error number.?
The credential part for me, NUC installed with no password but using an authentication app, was related, only in part, to my MS credentials used when logging into my Live account.

Within the Control Panel it is possible to add and edit Windows based credentials, Credentials manager.

Good luck.

I don't get an error message, just the user name and password box. I've tried a local account and an MS account to log in and neither works. I actually don't want to have to enter a password anyway as they've been accessible without a log in since I cleaned up the original 24H2 problem with unsecure log ins, etc.

I fully agree, it seems just a handful of people here have the issue where the old resolutions fail.

We also outlined this issue on a previous thread for 26100.5074.

I've noted that this issue also occurs using 25H2 26200.5710, so versions beyond 26100.5074 also carry it. Destroys networking.

I'm just keeping both my 24H2 machines on 26100.4946 (with a 3rd legacy machine on 23H2 Win11 Lite). Maintains my small network until MS notices the damage it's done. No good saying "... only a few people have this issue" as that just pushes them aside.

I have this same issue, all of a sudden I can't connect to anything on our network. No NAS and none of the PC's in the Sim center can be found.
This sucks, it makes it so I must go into the Sim center to do any setup files and move them to each Simulator. I can't even connect to the PC right next to me.
There has to be a work around for this. This broke networking >>>> Package_for_ServicingStack_5074~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.5074.1.7
I can't remove it with Dism either.

It's been a battle for many years for me to keep networking working. Went thru the mess of dealing with mixed OSes. Now I have 4 PCs all 24h2 on release.
As far as each one seeing the others in the network map, sometimes they can, sometimes they can't so I set up shortcuts using computer names
(ip addresses work too as long as you have static IPs for your machines) and I finally said to hell with the map.
To fix the damnable credentials thing, on each computer I created credentials for all the other 3. It doesn't matter if you use the same login/password or even if it's the same MS account/password, create the credentials anyway because even though you're using the same Microsoft account, Windows does not automatically treat it as the same user across machines for file sharing. Credentials still need to be authenticated per session.

To create a credential:
Go to Control Panel>Credentials> Windows Credentials>Add a windows credential

In the "Internet or network address" box, type the name of the computer on the network that you want to access.
(e.g:, \\HostComputerName\) If you're accessing by ip it would be \\192.168.x.xx.
In the User name and Password boxes, type the user name and password that you use for that computer you're accessing, and then click OK.
Note: It must be a password, not a pin.

This also works for a mapped network drive as long as the drive shows everyone with read or full control in that drive's permissions eg:\\HostComputerName\Sharename

I say again, Each computer should have a credential for each of the other computers

Hopefully this will work for someone else but I can't guarantee it. It's windows networking. Microsoft has never mastered it. The have been times I would have been up the proverbial creek without a paddle had I not had Remote Desktop to fall back on.

That is almost what I did , in terms of credential making etc.
However, the NUC 100 I bought, using W11 Pro, was installed with no password, just using the authenticator app on my phone.
The username ended up something like..

NUC3/[email protected]

and the password being my MS online password.

Strange how each PC does not accept that even though they are created with a single user using the same MS online account, and each boot with a PIN or password, PIN in my case, then when one is trying to access the other then there are problems.
Even with all the advanced sharing set appropriately, and no password selected, there are still so many hoops to just through to get shares shared, once you get access. Then more hoops to go through to map and access as required various drives.

I had not realised just how dire this can be coming from the Windows 10 Pro N54L media server to that of a NUC 100 with a DAS, running W 11 Pro.

I have made a backup of the Credential Managers content. Although it does not seem possible to back up the Credentials using Remote Desktop on my media server, the NUC.
EDIT: You need to use Ctrl Alt and END key, as the Del option is tied to a local machine and will not work over the remote desktop.

Remote Desktop has been a life saver, when it should not have been needed. MS seem to be really challenged when it comes to home networking.

I had mentioned the Credentials Manager to the OP, but it might not be relevant in that case...?

I have paused Windows updates, just wished that the feature type could be stopped.

I can't remember the name of the utility I had for the Windows 10 machine that basically took over Windows updates and allowed me to manually control them, even preventing certain KB type ones being available.

I can't edit my post, but the utility that I used to manage Windows update is called WAU Manager.

@glasskuter

Thank you for your comment. I've tried the "give all machines on the network a credential" route without success. And even if it did work, with a dynamic IP address allocation on each boot, this has to be repeated. With machines on all versions beyond 26100.4946 (including 25H2 26200.5710 as I've tested), they will not talk to each other despite seeing each other. No matter how I finagle the parameters. Whatever coding change MS made to the networking modules after 24H2 26100.4946 is present in all versions since. An inherited ongoing mess ...

I agree wholeheartedly with you that MS has always stuffed up networking, even if intermittently. I can remember from over 30 years ago an IT staff member complaining with feeling that a newly released Windows version didn't fix the mess at all. Still there, thiugh intermittently be it.

To my mind, the true point, the crux of this, is that a machine on a version after 24H2 26100.4946 will instantly talk to a machine on a lower version (eg. Win 11 Lite, 26100.4946), but NOT to a machine on a version beyond 24H2 26100.4946. This is both true on my network and pinpoints the genesis of the issue.

It would be nice though, for those whose networks don't experience this problem to inform details here of the if they have to allocate "credentials" to each machine on their network or not; if they do so allocate, how ?
