TL;DR My laptop webcam stopped working since I did Windows 11 clean install
I had the same issue on Windows 10 some time ago but was easy to fix by just changing device FriendlyName to "HD WebCam" from USB Boot
But on W11 even if I change the FriendlyName in
it still doesnt change the name of Camera in Settings or any other application
But it does change the name in Device Manager.
Specific error: MediaCaptureEventFailed , camera shown as 'USB Boot" Under Device Manager>Camera Instead of HD WebCam (as on Windows 10)
My Laptop: Acer Predator helios 300 2018 PH315-51
Camera Hardware ID:
USB\VID_0BDA&PID_5841&REV_0103&MI_00
USB\VID_0BDA&PID_5841&MI_00
I also check drivers on another laptop same model and it has webcam working with generic Microsoft drivers (Dated 2006)
Still I have tried all drivers from
- realtek
- thrird party tools ie DriverFix ,etc
- Related forum posts I could find
- Windows Update already checked
- Acer predator support page doesnt provide any WebCam drivers
- Also tried drivers from Acer aspire that just installed some realtek drivers, didnt work
I have tried:
- Uninstall drivers > reboot > Let Windows Install
- Use Custom drivers from above list > reboot
- EnableFrameServerMode in regedit
- BIOS reset
- Hold pinhole on back for Battery reset
