The advantage of using the application new Outlook is that you receive a notification when a new email arrives, even if the application is closed.
And it opens very quickly.

I blocked advertisements in the Host file. No need to pay for that ;-)

To hide the ads sent by Microsoft you need to modify the Hosts file.

  1. Open Notepad or Notepad++ as administrator
  2. Open the Host file here C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
  3. Add line
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 outlookads.live.com #block Ads
  4. Save.
A ghost mail is still displayed in "Others" , but it is not very annoying and you never see any ads ;-)
Yes, I use the host file for many things. I don’t yet use the New Outlook. I see no ads in Windows Mail. I do however see the email ads/spam if I login online to Outlook.

I see your other post, you don’t think this is annoying? You may as well let the mail through, you don’t have to open it. But if it works for you like this (y) 🙏

It's in "others" and emails in others are very, very rare. So I never go there...

If you get loads of emails from different accounts - screen notifications can be mega annoying. Outlook (classic version) in options enables you to display alert or not when new email arrives, plus also can enable / disable sound alert.

If you have the full Ms Office suite I can't see the point of using other email clients -- it's just email -- doesn't have to have all those other things built in to it - it does just what it says on the tin -- that's good enough for loads.

For those who don't have access to Ms office -- then of course this thread is relevant.

Cheers

The AD is related to the Outlook email not Outlook client. The app has no ADs, if you do not use Outlook.

Email itself is a dinosaur method of communication anyway -- all its good for is sending the odd attachment, and getting bill
paying reminders from utilities and credit card companies. Much better ways of communication today.

It's an interesting issue. I'm retired, so don't have the work communication issue, but I do have old 'dinosaur' friends who only communicate by email (or occasionally phone), middle aged children who only want to use Whatsapp, or occasionally SMS, and grandchildren who prefer voicemail or SMS. I suppose it behoves us, as technical 'cognoscenti' to be flexible and accept a range of methods.

I like to consider myself a Rosetta Stone. :D
