Plus... when I search, I used to get a green progress bar in the address bar, now I don't.
And I now have a Details button on the far right.

That was some cumulative update from 23h2. Don’t remember exactly which update kb though. The loading isn’t a bar anymore, but now a spinning circle on the left of the tab. This FE update also enabled being able to drag tabs out to new instances or merge them into one instance. If you revert that update, you’ll lose that functionality as well (just fyi).

try this to revert it:

vivetool /disable /id:38664959,40729001,41076133

That didn't change anything.
And I rebooted.

This FE change just happened sometime in April. Either the Apr 9th or the Apr 23rd update.
I've been on 23H2 for a long time (since October 2023), when the 23H2 Enablement Package came out.

I love me some Enablement Packages. :cool:


I don't use Explorer Patcher or StartAllBack, either.

I'm also on the latest Winaero Tweaker (Feb 2024) 1.62.1.0

i looked for a bit regarding this and most sites reported it came with moment 4, which would've been the enablement package update (pretty sure it ends in 310). but you'd be reverting more than just FE by uninstalling that...

found this one...

Disable dragging fe tabs out (assuming it was all implemented in one feature):

I don't even see a .2590 in the Win 11 news.

I was on .2506 at the end of Oct 2023.
Then Nov 14th 2023 was .2716


I'm NOT an Insider. I don't even see a .2590 for the Insiders either. :-)

lmao.. yeah was on my phone on that post. small screen, didnt read. pretty sure it got implemented with build 2590, so you'll have to track down what update that was and uninstall that

Yeah that still works, but I want to be able to click This PC on my desktop and get the old Windows 11 File Explorer.
It's too hard to help people with Win 11 problems if I'm running Win 10 File Explorer.

If I had my choice... I want the Win 11 File Explorer before tabs, and with Search's green progress bar.
I can get rid of the tabs with vivetool, but now, doing that breaks File Explorer.

I wanna beat up some people at Microsoft. ^^

install 22h2 on a vm and pull FE from there and replace it on your machine... but thats drastic measures. i'll keep googling. i know the first set of vivetool commands worked with 23h2 first came out, because i used it on a personal pc of mine but obv that has changed since its release (most likely due to cumulative mods).

My file explorer has not changed at all and we are on the same build. @Ghot I do not have the same configuration. My is plain basic.

Yours changed.
You have the Details button at the far right and the address bar is above the view bar.

See the pics in the first post of this topic.
The top pic is dated Apr 18th, so it must have been the Apr 23rd 2024 patch that did the dirty deed. Grrrr


It was such a sly change by MS, that I didn't even notice it till today, when I did a search.



This pic is from Mar 2023... before they broke anything in File Explorer.

i pulled 22h2 file explorer off a laptop i had sitting around. cant upload it here tho.. says its too big @ 4mb lol

the colored titlebar at the top suggests you have some mod applied to FE though...
