Solved Why am I not getting the latest Windows 11 update (23H2) on my laptop?

Hello :)

Why am I not getting the latest Windows 11 update, which is 23H2, on my HP Envy laptop?
You can see the specifications of my device in the screenshot. Any other users with a similar HP Envy, have you received it?

I have an older HP Envy from 2018 and that one has already updated to 23H2 a month ago. My older laptop runs Windows 11 Pro, though, I am not sure if this matters.

Any help will be appreciated! :)

Note that if you force install 23H2 with ISO or in-place upgrade you might experience issues for which there won't be solution other than waiting for fix from windows update or reinstalling 22H2.

That is assuming that Joanne has a problem with her laptop in the first place, there is no evidence so far that there is. It could be that Microsoft just doesn’t know what they’re doing (which by all accounts suggest that they don’t)
Perhaps you could show Joanne how to find out if she has an issue? I wouldn’t know how to instruct Joanne to find out.

Based on my experience, I don't think that MS falsely labeled her laptop as temporarily incompatible, my PC has countless times been under safeguard, I used to ignore it and, in most cases, didn't experience any issues until a month ago when I had to reinstall 22H2 because problems were unbearable.

Problem is, if that happens there is no 22H2 available for download therefore she would be stuck with misbehaving system and no option to revert until a fix is resolved.

Sadly I don't know how to figure out what exactly is triggering the safeguard, but my suggestion is to just wait until MS resolves the issue, they will resolve it for sure, safeguard isn't forever you just have to be patient.

There might not be issues now, but after an update there might. Thus it is safer to wait for MS to resolve the issue first. MS does not push updates to computers on main branch that has breaking known issues. And this is a very good thing. The last thing you want on a working computer is for it to stop working. Many users life and work depend on it.

Joanne could always make an image of her system as it currently is, which is what we preach a lot in here. If there are problems, she could reverse them. Just a thought though. But of course, unless Joanne knows what she is doing, sure, leave it as is I suppose.

I doubt that it being "Pro" makes a difference. I just wait around for the updates to be offered. Some computers get offered the updates sooner than others. I'm running W11 Home and received my 23H2 update almost 2 months ago. And, I have received 5 23H2 updates since then. I will bet that there's another one coming soon.

Also, not trying to argue with anyone, but I don’t see any evidence of Joann’s laptop being marked as anything. Maybe a screenshot of any message that says there is would help. And who knows why people scramble to force update Windows, there are countless… countless threads in here and posts about doing so. People want things now, for whatever reason.
Is there any particular reason you want to update, @Joanne, or are you just curious as to why it hasn’t?

One of my computers has not received a feature update in about a year. And the computer is working great. No real reason to force in 23H2 when 22H2 works great.

Yeah, there are also countless threads with people having strange issues which nobody is able to resolve, just saying.
People can be really strange sometimes.

This is my personal laptop and the only device I am currently using, so it would be a disaster if something would happen to it.

I will not force any update, I will just wait.

Can you please provide a set of commands to check the Health of my laptop? To make sure everything is working properly?
I have not seen any issues, and all of my Applications are running smoothly but I would definitely like to check my laptop's Health, thoroughly!

You could check Reliability Monitor, to see if there were any errors on your system. Sometimes there are a few failed update. Don't worry too much about those, but if you have critical errors (marked as red), then you might have to do a closer investigation for the cause.

Another way to check the health of your system is to open Event Viewer and look for any Errors. The most significant ones are already in Reliability Monitor though...

There two basic commands you can run, dism and sfc, dism should be run prior sfc:

Run CMD as Administrator and run commands
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
When previous command is done:
sfc /scannow
