Windows 11 23H2 showing in windows update

Windows 11 23H2 is now showing up in windows update as an optional update for me as of around ten minutes ago.

Not sure whether to install or not as I have had issues previously.

Back-up, install it, roll back if it’s an issue.

Just out of curiosity, were you on an insider build or just plain ol' regular Windows 11?

I opened windows update, wondering if I had also recieved that update notice (in Australia) but seeing as I am already on 23H2, there was no update. I was curious if Microsoft might have updated the files and I would have to re-download it. I might roll back to 22H2 and sus it out.

My partners laptop is not seeing the 23H2 update as yet. I got a shock to see it there this morning.

I am also waiting for the ISO of 23H2 as a way of doing a clean install if it becomes necessary at anytime.

Everything is running fine after running the update thus far

That’s good to hear, Rob. The randomness of the distribution is always weird. And yeah, I thought the rollout was to be distributed later on down the track.

the 23H2 enablement package has been available for a while now on the Insider Release Preview channel, and until MS fixed it recently there was a bug that allowed an in-place upgrade of the retail 22H2 that was allowed to check for updates would find and install the 23H2 update.

I have checked for updates on my three supported devices running the retail 22H2, one Home and two Pro. None of them see 23H2 offered.

Yeah, the in-place upgrade trick was one of those 'oddities'. Have you checked your settings in Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Programme?

I was reading about those I didn't try any. It was so odd how it was working and suddenly stopped working to show how Microsoft works in mysterious ways at times. There is going to be some interesting reading coming soon to see who may see who can and cannot see the update.

Would be nice to see the ISO sooner rather than later for 23H2 update

Interesting info. The build that you are on is a Release Preview Channel version so something odd happened here. Thanks for additional info about this, Bree.

We must be so close now (I hope) so I'm just waiting for official release.

It's not showing for me in WU... yet.
Whenever I click "Check for updates", I get this popup...

And then, for some reason, I just forget what I was doing.

Maybe you need to have "Get the latest updates as soon as they are available" turned on in order to get 23H2 early?

I'm still thinking it's possible I could get 23H2 from WU even with unsupported hardware. I installed 22H2 with the bypass instructions. A couple of weeks ago I got a large WU and it gave me the Copilot preview. I saw some on another forum say this was part of 23H2 and they would be rolling out parts of it gradually, but your system specs would still say you are on 22H2. There were other mentions that if you were on 22H2 you would "automatically" be eligible for 23H2, so maybe the bypass method won't be necessary?

Copilot and other such features are part of what MS call 'moment 4', a set of feature that the latest CU adds to 22H2. The 23H2 feature update adds little, if any, extra features. What it does is up the build from 22621 to 22631 and extend support life for the OS by a year. The 23H2 feature update will be done by a small enablement package which installs in much the same way as a cumulative update.

Whether an unsupported device will be offered 23H2 in Windows Update is another matter, my feeling is probably not. The update package makes no tests for compatibility, but Windows Update may - and not offer it to unsupported devices. If so, when 23H2 gets released you should be able to manually install the enablement package, links to download it are almost certainly going to be published on this forum.

Have mine set to On - but doesn't show any update to 23H2.

Anyway, it's beyond mid October - almost November - so it should be around the corner.

Same here. Checked for updates and no 23H2 was offered. When 22H2 was released, many people got the update through WU and MS offered the iso download at the same time. One could have used the installation assistant to update. I'm guessing that it will be released near the next patch Tuesday.

I am failing to understand the urgency of getting 23H2? I know, I upgraded to it, but purely to confirm Bree’s findings. Otherwise… meh.
