You know Windows 11 is basically Windows 10 64-bit with a newer skin right? I said it in an earlier post. Windows 11 23H2 build 4037 full version number is 10.0.22631.4037 and the 10.0 at the beginning implies a Windows 10 version. standard Windows 10 versions have full version number 10.0.19xxx.xxxx Anything from 10.0.2xxxx.xxx and higher is a Windows 11 version.

If you don't have control or know how to affectively use Windows 11 or any other operating systems, they will be useless software i have no trouble with Windows 11.

StartAllBack pretty much eliminates most of the annoyances..., maybe a few reg tweaks here and there.

Vast majority (easily > 60%) just switch on pc and surf net, send emails or play games. No way are 99.9 % possessively particular. I would be gobsmacked if it even reached 10%

Those using the computer only for browsing the internet, checking emails and Facebook and occasional Office work, they wouldn't tell the difference if they could use Windows XP with a modern skin and a modern browser. For all of us that are a little more advanced, we can distinguish the difference GUI unless third-party tools make newer Windows look like older versions. Then we would need further hints such as a couple of applications or Windows version to tell Windows 11 from 10. So telling Windows 10 is better than 11 is a matter of GUI differences. Use third-party utilities to customize Windows 11 to look exactly like 10 or earlier like we most do.

I agree, this is what I use my PC for, well except for Facebook, never been on Facebook. Problem is, try finding software and browsers that like XP. Heck, my VPN Private Internet Access don't even like windows 7. I would go back to 7 for my use in a heart beat, but trying to get everything I use to work with it, would probably cause me to have a stroke. :D

Tip: Convert an old Windows XP computer in a thin Client (running remote applications). Probably the latest versions of the browsers for XP cannot run the online version of Windows 365 or Office 365, but in my work we use a very old Windows XP computer for programming some devices. I use AnyDesk 6 or 7 to connect on my home Windows 11 PC and do some work there. Then I can copy-paste the files between the local and the remote PC. So You could have a modern computer and remotely access it from your old PC. Apart from occasional delays in screen refresh it feels like using a modern PC locally.

You know Windows 11 is basically Windows 10 64-bit with a newer skin right? I said it in an earlier post. Windows 11 23H2 build 4037 full version number is 10.0.22631.4037 and the 10.0 at the beginning implies a Windows 10 version. standard Windows 10 versions have full version number 10.0.19xxx.xxxx Anything from 10.0.2xxxx.xxx and higher is a Windows 11 version.

Windows 11 may well be W10 with a newer skin but that newer skin seems designed to obfuscate and hide access to familiar settings while adding unwanted marketing and selfserving notifications. That is not new for Microsoft but it seems increased and pervasive in W11 used out of the box.

If one is accustomed to using keyboard shortcuts for settings, etc. or even the command line to get work done, then W11 is just like W10. But to endusers like me (I rarely play computer games and the like) who depend on familiar menus and things being where they used to be, it is more of an obstacle.

Thank goodness for expert like you who help us out.

There are utilities such as O&O Windows Shutup to disable most annoying stuff. See also Winaero Tweaker.

Have noticed something different about Win 11.

After a fresh install, about 14 days letter, Windows runs faster, feels snappier, in terms of app launch/running.

Also analysisng performance in TM, CPU/Mem/Disk usage lower on average.

Obviously some algorithm is performing caching, optimizing regularly used apps on disk.


Don't think I ever saw this on W10.

I have noticed it too. Windows 11 is a little faster than 10, probably improved resources management. Yet another reason to bypass compatibility check and upgrade our unsupported computer to 11. Who ignorant said Windows 11 is awful? If he doesn't like the changes in GUI there are tools to make it look exactly like Windows 10 or earlier. I have the Windows 7 start button and start menu, Windows 10 taskbar and File Explorer, desktop gadgets for Windows Vista/7 to name a few. I have even replaced the flat Windows 11 system icons with those of Windows 8.1
