And, since Microsoft is in the United States, and 13 is pretty much considered unlucky, I'd say we're not going to have a Windows 13.

It is not regional - it is based on primary religion being Christianity - everybody knows that.

Interesting you should say that shamrock. i'm not so sure. it wasn't clear that the Win 10 dev channel was leading up to Win 11 until it was announced, so they may very well be testing components of Win 12 in the Win 11 Dev channel. They do say of the Dev channel that things they test there may never see inclusion in Win 11.

I would have agreed with that assertion, however apparently in Italy Friday 13th is not considered unlucky, but Friday 17th is. 13 is an auspicious number there.

When I was young, I was always told that it had to do with the number of people at the last supper. I'm sure that there are other explanations if one was to do a search.

ie not for all! But it's something a lot of people are superstitious about.

I am an atheist, so I cannot disagree. I was only pointing out how the legend arose.

I agree with somebody.
Many origin stories were just made up on the spot one day then repeated. Just like 84.7% of statistics are made up on the spot.
Many of these stories are contradicted by other stories but neither can be proven. This stuff about 13 is a case in point. One alternative origin story is about a Norse god. We cannot know how any of these legends arose.

It's the same with the supposed origins of many words. If somebody makes up a story, and if others can't refute it because there's absolutely no evidence one way or the other, then it can get accepted.
That's why some people still think that the Amazons [that the Greeks wrote about] used to cut off one of their breasts to make it easier to shoot their arrows.

For me even Windows 11 is more like Windows 7 Service Pack 3. The thing is... Windows is not some small project handled by only couple of people (less than 10 - an Indie company if you will) - or an open source project managed in their spare time. But... a 38 years old project part of a billions of $ busines with over 100K employees in U.S. alone - of which - around 10k cover the Windows project (used to be around 5k back in early 2000 - so 20 years latter... i presume that number doubled if not tripled). And as it goes with every similar job - the future is always on display (fixing what can be fixed, working on new features - while improving the current ones or newly released). As for the naming (be it Windows 11 or Windows 21) - that's mainly a business move (focused on financial gains). As mentioned in a different topic:

"This is definitely not a New Operating System (made from scratch). But hey, it's a business. And that's the only reason they call it a new OS - aka - billions of $ business (from making new licenses contracts with every big OEM like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, etc). Even if this days - it's not their biggest source of revenue (or even 2nd or 3rd for that matter) - it's still in the billions of $ range (it's still a cow worth milking)."

Not to mention - they're trying to please almost everybody. Ok, so you're the conservative type - still nostalgic and hell bent on preserving your traditional values ("The Start menu should ALWAYS be on the LEFT! It's how my forefathers foreseen it since Windows 95! A change from Windows 3.1 that should be set in stone - till end the Windows world!), fine - Microsoft made it happen. Maybe you're Liberal at heart - open to anything while in bed with everyone (almost). Tho, slightly pissed at your Mac zealots acquaintances - constantly praising their God given OSX (especially since religion gives you the creeps) - and how it's way better than Windows for having the icons stacked together in the middle (which is something you secretively wanted as well... natively). Or maybe you've been flirting with Linux under the table - switching to Windows just for games. Boom Microsoft made that happen too. As an ancient philosopher used to say..."Plagiarism is not a shame. It's only shameful to get caught. So try to do things like you did your homework... copy, but also ad some slight changes here and there - before you paste..." After all... what is Windows if not a dream (OS) - developed by people who are rarely awake. And tested by the walking dead (ok... more like sleepwalking / it's just surprising at times - how thousands of supposedly wake people - miss even straight in your face bugs).

Previous to this leak, Zac Bowden of Windows Central reported that Microsoft would be switching to a new engineering schedule that would see a new version of WIndows OS released every three years. If this turns out to be accurate information, it would put the next release, Windows 12, at 2024.

There’s also a rumor that Windows 12 might be the first cloud-based OS, which doesn’t sound particularly far-fetched. If this is true, it could be hosted off-device and bundled with computing and storage as part of a subscription package. Honestly, I find that future frightening.

There is no evidence for that as far as I can find. The origin of this superstition is speculative.
