@RJARRRPCGP, I don't remember what forum I found out from but I did find out that I could test out Win 7 for free. It sounded so good that I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be my wow moment. Windows 7 brought me back to Windows and unless MS makes too many changes I don't like. I plan on Windows remaining my #1 OS.

Win11 definitely superior to Win10!

There are always people who hate change.

It's not about "change". It's about hassle. I'm currently a Win11 user as we speak. My profile already confirms that.

The truth is each version of Windows has been technically superior and have greater abilities than the previous version.

That's nonsense. I hardly call putting ads and other adware into the OS "technically superior".

I'd hardly say turning your users into beta-testers so they can waste more precious time fixing something that's not ready to be released, "technically superior" .

I'd hardly say adding even more telemetry to suck up people's precious bandwidth, "technically superior".

I'd hardly say requiring people to put in an email address to register their OS copy so they can log in and MS can better track you and serve up even more ads, "technically superior".

Just for starters and on and on and on... ...

Quit letting MS off they hook. They released a not-ready-for-prime-time monstrosity upon the public and you know it.

PS: Just because I have to use something, that doesn't mean I gotta like it.

Hell, if I used my system more lightly, I'd probably notice no issues either. But I use my system for my day job (using Windows Sandbox all day), with a VPN, for gaming, and everything. I guess I am a big target for bugs. Still, dude, using the joke I already alluded to is pretty low-road.
I use mine extensively for software development, running VS Code in WSL on the latest 24H2 release 26100.2152 and absolutely rock solid with no issues as all.

You are obviously not aware of the significant changes to driver models/frameworks. Many of them adding what should be worthwhile new functionality. For example, to the new WDDM 3.2 display and graphics drivers framework.

A lot more goes on in the background than changes to the GUI and the Start Menu.

PS: Just because I have to use something, that doesn't mean I gotta like it.
Adding Ads (nusance) doesn't mean that the underlying core hasn't improved (which it has in all manner of ways).
I agree just because one has to use something doesn't mean you have to like it -- when I'm in London I really LOATHE their "metro system" or "The Tube" -- noisy, overcrowded, smelly etc etc -- but there's no choice because walking (much rather do) the sidewalks are dangerous --full of lycra clad cyclists thinking they are better than the "tour de France professionals", electric scooters, total chaos at traffic lights with cyclists / scooters ignoring all the signals so no safe pedestrian crossing places and so much traffic jams the whole street smells of diesel fumes. Mind you the politicians got one thing right -- if you have a "congestion charge" then you have to have congestion. !!! and they've got that in spades. !!

For Windows 24H2 you can debloat quite a lot -- if you don't for example use Edge, use another browser with say the default search engine to Duck Duck Go (Google and Ms search engines generate a huge amount of ads) and where possible when installing 3rd party apps install from the source web site and not the Ms store.

Cheers

That's good to know. But ask yourself this; Does the average user really give a sh*t about that? Would they really notice? Would they really care?

A lot more goes on in the background than changes to the GUI and the Start Menu.

Yeah, like fixing things that were broke before. Something they should have done already.

... that the underlying core hasn't improved (which it has in all manner of ways).

Again, put yourself in their place. Will the average joe out there really notice that? Or are they going to focus on all the mess 24H2 currently is?

I suspect it's the latter, for now...

I agree just because one has to use something doesn't mean you have to like it

Yeah, that's for the "if you don't like it then don't use it" crowd. A ridiculous, specious response.

Life ain't always so simple, but that doesn't mean you gotta make it harder than it already is. That's my response to dismissive nonsense like that.

-- when I'm in London I really LOATHE their "metro system" or "The Tube" -- noisy, overcrowded, smelly etc etc -- but there's no choice because walking (much rather do) the sidewalks are dangerous --full of lycra clad cyclists thinking they are better than the "tour de France professionals", electric scooters, total chaos at traffic lights with cyclists / scooters ignoring all the signals so no safe pedestrian crossing places and so much traffic jams the whole street smells of diesel fumes. Personally, I wouldn't live there. I wouldn't live in New York, either. Buy hey, I know some people are 'trapped'. 😉

Edge is the most bloated, spyware-infested POS crap of a browser out there. They make even Chrome look privacy-orientated. -lol 😄

I use Firefox, myself. With some privacy-orientated add-ons on top of it. And sure 24H2 can be debloated, but that's gonna take time and shouldn't have to be done in the first place. That's my attitude about it.

Some people consider tweaking the OS to be fun. I consider it a chore and a (sometimes) necessary evil if I want to get done what I have to get done.

We all know we use windows bc convenience nothing more if linux was supported natively by companies and games without compatibility layers we would switch in heart beat cause windows actually became bloatware and i thought linux users just talk mumbo jumbo wanting to be "superior" and its sad reality that I need to strip down OS every time update installs trash services running in background while literally i can run OS with 69 processes without issues and thats with apps on startup

What is an 'average user'? I was an IT Manager before I retired and can say that users fall into many categories. I don't ever recall meeting this mythical average user you speak of. I provided admin support and user training and found that most users computer skills and their IT support and training needs varied most of the time.

The user that just wants to use a computer for things like email, social media and other simple task. They don't want to lean about computers. They just want to use it.

I know many people like that. I even have to help them out, sometimes...

then they should stick with phones if they arent interested to learn..
Just because they only want to use the computer and not get too involved in them is no reason why they they cant use them. By the way, my wife is a average user and she uses a plain old flip phone.

Ok! I have to ask. Is that because she doesn't use a computer? My wife uses her laptop for playing games and nothing else. Games such as card games, slot machine games and mahjong. Some I loaded from disk and a couple from the MS Store. I'm not going to tell her that someone suggested that people like her should only use a phone.

Ok! Maybe she's average then. She always inherits my old computers. Right now, she's using my old Dell XPS 9510 laptop. She uses it for web surfing mostly on Amazon, Facebook, email, etc. She plays a lot of solitaire, mahjong, etc. She doesn't want to learn anything about computers, she just wants to use them. She loves her Pixel 7 Pro smart phone. As far as wives go though, she's way above average!

Sometimes phones don't cut it for certain things, and not everybody can afford a MacBook Pro. That's where mid-priced Windows laptops & desktops come into play. Not to mention some people have to do some of their work at home and it requires using Windows. There are all kinds of different scenarios out there.
