Not everyone needs a MacBook pro. You can get a certified refurbished (from Apple), MacBook air m2 for $849. That's cheaper than my cell phone

Except for the internet and email that's exactly the way my wife uses her laptop. Anything beyond that and it's "Hey Hon".

If that's as far as the go then yes they are.

At first I did not like new notepad (thinking it had over complicated a simple tool) but now I love it as I keep the last ten or so tabs open pointing to various text files I have been using recently or use a lot.

No need to remember text file name or location.

To all those moaning about the new notepad, give it a fair trial and then decide if you want to revert.

I am always amused when people knock tabs in notepad, file explorer etc. but are quite happy to have a zillion tabs in their browser LOL

It's not so much Notepad just having tabs.
It's the fact that there's no way to close them... all, if I choose to.
Even closing Notepad won't clear the tabs.

THAT is the "broken" part of the new Notepad.

It's just another of MS's lost list of things where the user has NO choice.
There's no need for any App or Setting to be... "no choice".

Microsoft: "It's my way or the highway, pal".





I can just close the browser to clear ALL the tabs, if so desired.

Thank goodness I use a swapable drive bay! I updated on a test SSD from 23H to 24H(ell). Half of my network devices didn't show up! 1 a NAS and the others were all PCs. I tried everything I could find to try to get them to show up again. Nothing worked. Matter of fact something I tried disallowed access to anything on my network when using a browser and the IP of the device!

Rolled back to 23H...no issues. So I paused updates on all my other PCs until I can make the network work again.

But you cannot get back the non-immersive taskbar. Version 23H2 was the last one which had it.

It became avg after COVID hit. Most certainly.

And no, I don't make or look for excuses to let Microsoft off the hook, here.

There's always exceptions out there. My original point still stands.

I’m not a big text file user, but have been using free EditPad Lite for years.

It just took me 2 minutes to close 50 tabs even doing them individually. It would take you a damn site longer to upen 50 tabs in sequence with old notepad!

I'm a fan of notepad with tabs. And also reopening things I had open before, as I take a lot of different notes for work and notepad is my tool of choice.

Easiest option is just to close each tab when you are done with it, if you don't want multiple things open.

Also, there are some settings you can change by hitting the gear icon and you can have notepad start a new session when you launch it.

That was interesting reading, i read about the new Audio ACX-drivers, and even if i am not an developer of any kind it seem like they want to phase out the old kernel streaming, and have the ACX to be the new low latency driver to adopt to, because of all the codecs and dsp's that are here to stay. but i can also have misunderstood MS article.

No problem, the issue is for some that they just take the negatives out of these major new Windows updates, moan and don't pay attention to the improvements that are included. I've never used a new version of Windows that hasn't had some initial bugs and gremlins included.

Exactly, i agree, the new version hav it's quirks, but the link you gave was an big improvement, i also read about the WDDM display driver update, also an big improvement. The only bug i found so far is that if you set monitor to turn off, and have 30hz, or any other refresh rate, and wait till monitor looses the signal and goes into standby , Windows will auto set to 59.94hz for some odd reason, and i only use one monitor for most of the time, sometimes i use an dummy hdmi dongle if i need access via team viewer to get an resolution that is not 1024x728, when i'm i headless mode, and i use an Tab A8.
If i then connect my monitor and have dual screen via team viewer on tablet, then it keep my settings and if i have set it in 30 hz to save power it stays there after waking up again. but MS has gotten that via feedback hub, so i hope they will fix it. i can't do much more about that. And i also having that sfc and 8.6gig bug, but i don't care about it for now, they will fix those, that's for sure.
I am overall happy with the update, and thanks to the link you shared i hoping to see more improvements from both graphics and audio vendors to starting to use those new benefits to visual and audio drivers to be even better with even lower latency and much more. Underlying improvements are as important as the one that everyone sees, they have moved some stuff to settings from control panel also i believe, so it moves slowly to the new gui, which is good also.
Up to each to install or not, nothing is really right or wrong here.
No need to make it more horrible than it really is.
