Something for the experts...

PC was on & there was a brief power cut.

Power back on & PC restarted, failed at start-up. Billy Bloatware's wheel of doom turned 90° & locked up.
Reset & Automatic Repair kicks in, takes me through to fix screen, I go to command prompt & run DISM /online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth.
It does not recognise these commands?

Yet if I run this command when W11 has booted OK it runs fine!

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if I'm in the right section, but I have a no boot situation on Windows 10. I think its version 1909 but I'm not certain, I'm not sure how to check in the recovery environment. Automatic repair fails and it dumps me the blue scree

I actually watched this. Some cool info, the common DISM commands wont work at boot, as you would of now learned in the Ten Forum link.

Perhaps not. I found the DISM command on my laptop from the Microbloat webpage & followed the instructions. Didn't say anything about elevated mode!

I should have been clearer: - It is the command window that needs to be run in elevated mode. Running DISM in the elevated window may behave differently. Good luck.

Usually if Elevated permissions are needed there will be a message. Most diagnostics in Windows do need that hence the need to run Command Prompt and PowerShell/Terminal as Admin mode before running the command.

From repair mode it does not give an option to run in elevated mode just go to command prompt. I would assume given the nature of the task it would be in elevated mode, but then again...

When one opens Command Prompt or PowerShell/Terminal as Admin the permissions have been elevated, just enter the commands needed.

I took the issue as they cant run DISM pre Windows loading. Which is why I thought to post that video

You're right, many things in Windows requires Windows be running. That change from DOS days started with the merging of DOS into the GUI with Windows 95.

You can’t run the standard DISM in a boot command window, it needs to point to the wim file, yes?

In the Recovery Environment, The Windows drive letter may change. You have to determine what drive letter Windows is on.
You cannot run DISM/Online, because you are not In Windows, the command should be run Offline.
Dism /Image:C:\offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows

To identify where windows is when inside the Windows RE, this should work from the command prompt

diskpart
list volume
exit

The Bcdedit | find "osdevice" command can be used to find out the drive letter of the Windows installed partition, the output of the Bcdedit command is similar to this osdevice partition=D:. The drive letter after partition= is the drive letter of the Windows partition.
