FileRepository Dilemma

I found out about the mess in FileRepository when I tried updating from Win11 23H2 to 24H2. About 10 AMD64 drivers prevented the update, of course, near the end. Deleting them solved that problem.
What about all the other drivers in there? All 830 of them have AMD64 in the FileName. All 3 of my Laptops are Intel I7's and do not have any AMD display chips. I would think that I don't need ANY of those drivers, taking up 5GB and maybe slowing the computers.
I tried deleting a few, rebooting and all seemed good. I felt brave, (had a backup) so I tried to delete all 830 of them. The app "UnLock It" froze on that request and the reboot went into a bios screen with a continuous"wait". Restored from the backup and back to where I started. I probably could remove by force, using WinRE.

Finally, my question is: Does it make sense to delete most or all of these AMD64 drivers that seem unnecessary on Intel computers? And, why is every one of the 830 FileRepository files AMD in an Intel computer? No other drivers are in the folder.

AMD64 is one of the names used for the 64-bit instruction set; it is also known as x64, along with some other less commonly used names.

This has nothing to do with AMD graphics.

So basically what you’re trying to do is delete the 64-bit drivers from your Windows. You are going to have a bad time.

Yikes! Didn't know that AMD64 was similar to x64.

Yep, one and the same. You’ll want to identify the drivers causing the upgrade failure, and hopefully update them to compatible versions. Seems like I have to do that for my audio drivers for every version of Windows 11 so far. Such is life.

AMD made first consumer 64bit CPU so name stuck. Long. long time ago it was IBM Compatible or Intel compatible to describe a PC. .

Are the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation 2 not consumer devices?

Of course they are but not PC., they used RISC processors.

OK, you said consumer and I said PC. So I’m exactly correct.

Thanks for clearing up the AMD64 meaning. It's something I should have known after all these years. I will not delete the FileRepository!
