My "get the latest updates" is greyed out but is set to ON. Have tried many different options but it is still greyed out. I believe I am receiving the latest updates but I cant be sure. Any advice please.

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update.
All my items are Not configured.

From Microsoft documentation: Update Policy CSP describes this policy. It also shows the registry settings.

What the screen shot in #6 appears to show is that AllowOptionalContent is set to 1 or 2 in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

This could be because the policy is set by the Group Policy Editor, but if gpedit shows that it's not configured that does not mean it hasn't been set in some other way. A direct registry edit or some tweaking tool. Gpedit simply shows the policies it's enforcing - ones which it will turn on or off when it runs policy enforcement.

The scripts that offer to fix the problem try to trash everything that looks like a group policy. They won't fix some issues caused by Intune/MDM policies. They may break something else. I'd advise against them.

The only time I have seen that was when I set the target release version policy. The option will be greyed out, and set to whatever it was before the policy was put in place.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

So I tried running the script mentioned in that video and . . . it worked
BUT
the (annoying) user picture on the login screen which I had successfully removed returned
SO
four hours later after re-researching how to remove it, it was finally removed again.
Many thanks to you all for your suggestions
