Good afternoon. On my Desktop PC I installed Win 11 24H2 and everything runs fine.

Now I would like to install the same OS on an external USB SSD without creating the dual boot, so that I can use it separately by managing the boot from the motherboard boot.

I tried to use Win To Go Creator of AOMEI partition assistant but at the end of the copy it fails. What to do???? Thanks.

PS. Obviously without disconnecting the main disk...

You would need to remove/disconnect the main OS drive so it won't automatically create a dual boot.

Edit:
You can manually remove the dual boot. Type "msconfig" on search bar and open System Configuration and select the OS from your USB device and delete it.

I'm curious about using Rufus and an external SSD drive? I used Rufus to create Win to Go on a flash drive and didn't have to disconnect my main drives but I've never tried it use an externally connected SSD.
