So, I'm troubleshooting "Error 0xc0000428 Digital signature for this file could not be verified" and thinking about reinstalling Windows 10. Listing my apps and programs for reinstallation when I run across "Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management"!"

Do What!?! And here's the kicker . . . so far I haven't had one iota of difficulty in clean installing Windows 10 or 11. But now I'm wondering whether to actually go there!

What system is that? Your "My Computers" lists two desktops. I tend to think of Optane as a laptop thing, although I think it may appear in some hybrid HDs in desktops.

I suppose that if a small Optane drive is being used as an accelerator for another drive, it requires Intel RST drivers. I've never had to deal with that, for which I am grateful.

I am very familiar with Optane. My HP laptop has it (and it works very well). I hope I will save you some pain.

1. Optane requires a small empty space at the very end of your hard drive. IF you do a CLEAN install of Windows 10, you will not be able to get the optane working again UNTIL you use a free program that allows you to resize partitions (such as the free version of Aomei Partition). According to Intel "The end of the targeted drive to be accelerated must contain at least 5MB of continuous unallocated space." You can do this easily with Aomei AFTER you do the clean install, then reboot. You will also need the latest Rapid Storage Technology driver from Intel--BE CAREFUL. Some of the Rapid Storage Technology drivers are only for very new CPUS. Choose the version correct for your CPU. Once you install the RST driver (and if you did the partition correctly), you will be able to turn Opatane on.

2. I recently upgraded to Windows 11 (and currently Optane was working fine on Windows 10). It was recommended that I do the in place upgrade to Windows 11 FIRST (which I did), and THEN use the Windows Media Creation tool to make a bootable USB flash drive and do a clean install as usual. Doing it this way, I had no problem with Optane as for some reason (maybe a feature in Windows 11), it recognized that I had Optane and automatically left the extra 5MB at the end of the C: drive on the clean install.

Hi Wynona,
You don't need Optane memory IMHO, you have a faster 512GB SSD as a boot drive, use AHCI mode for SATA.

Is it just that the software is installed or does your computer have Optane memory?
And the mystery goes on . . .

When I looked for Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management in Windows 11, it wasn't in my anywhere in my Start Menu. So I powered down and booted to Windows 10, and there it is! Sheesh! Could anything be more convoluted?

Anyhoo, I clicked on Intel Optane Memory and a nice red X showed up with: No supported controller found then a blue ?.

So, I would guess I don't have any Optane memory . . .

It's a desktop system with a 512 GB Western Ditital SSD and 1 TB Seagate SATA.

Normally I'd already have been inside the box, but so far, I've seen no need to do that with this system since it already has two drives and enough RAM installed. If I were to choose to go inside, what would I look for, since I'm thinking neither a WDC nor a Seagate drive would have Optane.

Actually, so far, Optane hasn't interfered with my clean installs; I always take a new PC to bare metal and clean install, whether it be a desktop or a laptop.

As far as I'm concerned, I can live the rest of my life without Optane! Especially since @Hazel123 had some real problems with it.

I have a 512 GB Western Digital SSD and a 1 TB Seagate SATA in this PC. Should I change that to AHCI?
Yes, I have ditched Intel RST with Optane and using AHCI, there's no noticeable difference, Intel Optane is more suited for those who are using spinner HDDs with Optane memory installed.

So, a weird question . . . Why would Intel put its crapola onto the end of a WD SSD? Especially since SSD is fast enough (in my NSHO). How would I change the Seagate SATA to AHCI? I don't generally change these kinds of things around. :eek1:

It's a desktop system with a 512 GB Western Ditital SSD and 1 TB Seagate SATA.

Normally I'd already have been inside the box, but so far, I've seen no need to do that with this system since it already has two drives and enough RAM installed. If I were to choose to go inside, what would I look for, since I'm thinking neither a WDC nor a Seagate drive would have Optane.

I'm not sure that any hybrid HDs use Optane memory, now that I think of it.

Not sure which HP desktop model you may have. I wonder if it has a BIOS setting to enable the use of an Optane accelerator? If it's on inappropriately, it's good that it has caused you no grief.

HP does some things that seem odd to me. A friend has a recent model HP two-in-one laptop, with an SSD as its primary drive. It also has a small Optane accelerator. Seems a bit pointless, even if the SSD is SATA.

No. I know the 1 TB drive is SATA. Speccy told me so.

Here's the WD info:
