If I ever buy a laptop with a Optane/NvMe drive I'll make sure the drive is 1TB or bigger so I don't have to do an upgrade later.

Had to find the exe for it to run initially, C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP CoolSense , then it shows up in the hidden icons in the notification area if you're still interested in it rather than the app.

Thanks. Downloaded - antivirus says it’s fine. On install it says it needs dot net framework v3.5 do you want to download this? I said yes and it took me to the page for first net framework v4 - which is already installed and it still says I need 3.5. So downloaded 3.5 from Microsoft. Assume that will be ok but I thought v4 would include v3.5?

I didn't have to download any version of .NET. Same as you I thought v4 was complete. There again mine isn't a fresh install.

I recently had to install .Net 3.5 for a program I was installing. .NET 3.5 includes .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0. .NET 4.8 was installed by Windows. Apparently it doesn't include the older versions.

Was .NET 3.5 already installed? If installed, it will be listed in Turn Windows features on or off.

Been trying a few things to see if the drive will appear in bios. So I disabled the IRST in storage controllers. That didn’t do anything but it changed from this

So then I uninstalled it. And checked bios again but still no different. Afterwards, Windows updated reinstalled the RST Premium controller again.

As it permanently says this (n)in bios, even after the storage controller uninstaller, I think it must be IRST firmware as part of the chipset? Unchangeable.

It does seem to be locked in the BIOS with no way to uninstall it. The laptop is running OK with the Samsung NVMe Controller and that's what really matters. :)

Thanks - yes - apart from fan running constantly and smell of plastic coming from the fans! Temperature doesn't show that high though - about 53 degrees. Coolsense doesn't seem to have done anything really.

I have to admit that most of my laptops were HP's. I did have one Acer Spin that I really liked. That is after I replaced the HDD with an SSD. My wife's niece now has it.

Good point! Samsung Magician says the drive is 53 degrees celsius. Speccy says the cpu is 54 degrees celsius.
