Laptop (Asus) not waking from sleep..

Posted this previously as a software issue, think this is a new problem. Hoping for some assistance if that's okay, can't quite afford to replace it just yet... Hope I've got the right forum now too.

Let me start from the beginning.

  1. Initially, the laptop wouldn't wake from sleep and I had to hold down the power button to fully power it off so I could then turn it back on.
  2. I then started shutting it down after using it which is a pain and I again started having to fully discharge the power button (believe it's something to do with static build-up in the battery?) to then turn it back on.
  3. I've noted a few times that after I've put the machine to sleep or turned it off that I'll arrive back to find the keyboard flashing red which I believe is some kind of issue with the bios.
Is this likely to be a CMOS issue of sorts? I'm now at the point where I have to turn the machine off, discharge (hold the power button down) for a few seconds then press it and the machine boots. Otherwise a battery management or RAM issue perhaps.

The Time Settings seem to be holding. It did seem to become an issue after the update but it doesn't seem likely anymore. Have trouble shot fairly extensively from a software standpoint but maybe I'm missing something? 11 Clean(ish) Install

What happens if you try a reset? I suspect that there is something which prevents your laptop fully going to sleep.

Try starting in Safe Mode and then 'sleeping' it.

I suspect your issues are caused by modern standby and/or an outdated bios. If you do an advanced search on this forum for "sleep issues modern standby" you will find many reports of the different kinds of misery modern standby can cause.

Ha.. So I turned it off and then couldn't turn it back on. Panicked. Pulled the battery and am running straight off the power adaptor. Now working perfectly. Is this therefore a battery issue or a power management chip issue?

Remove the battery, open device manager as admin and uninstall both items under 'Batteries'. Shut down, replace the battery and then try again. Those two drivers may be corrupted. This will reinstall them.

Before doing anything,
let's start by determining if you are using modern standby and providing a little more info. From administrative command prompt type powercfg -a
Please post a screenshot of the results (also report if the command is run with the battery in or out)
Are you running the latest bios on Asus site which is Version 308 2019/06/06?

Going to to stick the battery back in now and see what happens!

I have an ASUS laptop that has the same problem. In my case the issue is resolved by using the ASUS provided display driver. If I use a newer OEM driver, I'll have the same issue you are having.

In my case the system uses the Intel Graphics built into the CPU, no separate GPU.

Interesting, NVIDIA driver literally just updated. Might be the issue??? Will find out shortly I suppose. Battery replacement time

Try pulling down the ASUS provided driver just to see what happens.

No change, unfortunately. Seem to have to fully discharge the machine (ie, hold the power button down for 5 or so seconds) before it'll even power back on.

It's been over a week now since you brought up these problems you are having. Don't you think it's about time to try and do a clean install and make your laptop perform like brand new again? :)
I understand you have lots of programs installed. But just give it a try and see if doing a clean install will fix your problems. If it is still the same then restore it back to how it was before. Make a Macrium Image back up of your laptop before doing a clean install so you can bring it back to where it was if clean install did not solve your problem.
