Intel download site has graphics driver version 30.0.101.1994 WHQL, supports 12th Gen iGPU.
Downloaded and installed it, it works but suddenly my Realtek audio drivers disappeared, as if they had never been there, no entry for the device in device manager either.
Ran Windows update which picked up Intel graphics driver version 30.0.101.1371, it installed, works fine and lo and behold Realtek audio device and drivers re appear as if they had never gone AWOL.
Not sure what is going on there. Removed the 30.0.101.1994 driver package (I don't really need two 1.4GB driver packages) using RAPR, ran Windows update again, no changes this time, system working as it should.

Yeah they are pretty hefty. I have 2 on my pc, one of them is quite old, but not the default which is .1994.

However if I remove the old driver, Windows Update detects it is missing and redownloads it and installs it as the default.

This is an issue as it causes my boot graphics screen to be a black screen, so I have to go to legacy text boot screen which is so last decade.

I can hide it using WuShowHide app but each time I get a CU update it gets unhidden again and loops around.

In the end, it is simply easier to leave in installed in the driver store, then Windows Updates just ignores it and leaves newest driver as the default.

Yeah, its fine having both on the system so that the newer one is kept as default, except for the bit where with .1994 version installed and in use my Realtek device and drivers went poof, then Windows re installed .1371 and Realtek came back from holiday!
So I decided that since .1371 works fine and for some reason Windows Update has it in for .1994 I'll remove that version and get 1.5Gb disk space back, I only use the iGPU for monitoring apps and vid watching while working or playing on the 2060 super display, so it's fine.

What is the distinction between Intel WHQL and Intel ARC Graphics DCH Driver?

Which one should I install on my laptop with an Intel core i7-12650H?

The last version installed on my laptop is 30.0.101.1631, and I'm not sure if it's WHQL or ARC.

Hello Emer, :-)

The version number you have is for WHQL.

ARC has just recently been released, so not many have it yet.

I'm just confused because when I searched for a driver for a core i7-12650H on Intel's website, the result was intel ARC Graphics

The i7-12650H is listed as supported for ARC. I'd install ARC.

However, looking at the support page below, it looks like you could use either one.

I can install Intel ARC Graphics DCH version 30.0.101.1743 on my core i7-12650H laptop, but every time I restart it, the old driver 30.0.101.1631 (WHQL) from Windows Update replaces it, causing many problems with my system.

I've already turned off Windows Update driver, but it doesn't appear to have any effect on the Intel graphics driver.

Any suggestions? How do I install Intel ARC Graphics DCH version 30.0.101.1743 without having the old driver WHQL from Windows Update replace it?

Did you uninstall or clean install the previous version? The way it works is you have to let it install whatever they want to install once and then you install the version you want over it. So what you should do is in device manager, right click, uninstall and also remove the drivers, reboot until it no longer shows it as Intel. Then install what you want and if Windows installs something over it, then wait for that install to finish and then install what you want but never choose the clean install option in the installer. Windows somehow has to register the version it wants to install once and it will never reinstall that same version again.

I tried installing it that way, but it causes issues with my laptop's graphics display; images are broken and appear to be stuck everywhere.

I assumed that because what I had installed was Intel ARC graphics rather than WHQL graphics as provided by WU, it would be fine if I updated to WHQL graphics.

I just want to install Intel ARC graphics, which perform significantly better than WHQL graphics (tested).
But, for now, maybe I have to settle for WHQL until WU releases another new update.

Yeah, that can happen if the driver they install has problems which should also happen if you just used the driver Windows installs. They really should have something that checks that as long as the version installed is same or higher than what's in their database, it should not mess with it by downgrading you. Maybe all it really needs is some registry key with the version it wants to install and you can basically clean install and add that registry key back in.
