That's actually good if they make it a harder process so atleast you know it's legit. A lot will create these scam websites and then show a Australian Business license and ofcourse the certificate can be doctored that they basically use a name that is already like CAPITAL BUREAU | New Shape of Money for example which on the bottom even shows a ABN number that ofcourse matches but it doesn't mean the website was actually created by the real company of the ABN. Actually, it works for earlier adapters as well, the bluetooth drivers atleast as I am using it on a AX210 which is WiFi6E. The 23.xx versions drivers for WiFi are WiFi7 only.

I have a 3rd party Wifi/Bluetooth. It causes problems sometimes, or Windows does. But hadn’t had an issue since moving away from 10. Until now.

As far as I understand it. Otherwise it would answer a lot. Going to investigate.

For a while I thought it was this, but it only happens with certain drivers. I also tested the Wireless adapter directly into the MB, same result with certain drivers

@antspants - How does it actually show up in Device Manager for the WiFi device? According to this, it's a Intel AX200 so it would be weird if these drivers worked for others with the AX200 without issues:

There’s a process for totally removing all traces of past drivers for Bluetooth/wireless instances. I have to find it, it worked last time this happened. It might be in my other thread. I’m just flat out ATM

Interesting it's a AX210. I would think right clicking and uninstall and selecting deleting the files and repeat would work. Failing that, maybe DriverStoreExplorer can do it?

That may be true since I think atleast in the US, creating a Google account requires validation which is usually done by phone numbers and it appears to be 4 accounts per phone number, my first and primary account did not require validation as it was one of those from 2004/2005 when gmail required an invitation, the others were created 2009 and later. I already have 6 active personal accounts, 1 active personal account for my mom, 1 account under the business name which is still personal and several accounts I only created temporarily and never accessed again. I guess what can be done is you can always mirror it and just share a link or something. I guess a lot of these sites start doing the same upload.ee on people who don't have paid accounts when downloading probably as a way to get people to pay instead.

On another note, I kept thinking you were in the US for some reason when you mentioned Gateway computers.

I am US based.

I also have Google Voice numbers, and that may be how I've avoided the need, but I just created one using my actual cell number, and it sent me the code right away, so not a restriction on my cell (same number I've had for almost 20 years now).

Well, then, they either allowed GV before, or else I got around it somehow. Lol.

Now that I think about it, I'm positive they used to allow GV numbers for verification - I verified that 2 of my accounts in fact have my main alias a account and it's GV number listed in their information.

So, a valid, non GV number is either region specific, or else a (relatively new) restriction that was implemented after I set up the accounts that I have. The last time I set up a new Google personal account was at least 5 years ago, if not longer. I've been in my current home now for 4.5 years, and it was definitely before that.

I know this to be true. Had an Aussie friend (who eventually went to work for EA) who was a bit of a hacker in his youth, including but not limited to phone phreaking.

He told me about the restrictions there. Back then, the Internet access was also a utility, not privatized, right? And slow as molasses, compared to here.

In the past 3 year, we’ve had some major compromises. Many identities stolen, passports, drivers licences, medicare cards, passwords. GE Finance & Medibank/AHM Health were the worst. I was hit in both. It isn’t a nice feeling knowing that one day you might be told that owe you owe money for a car you never bought etc etc…

When I built my last house 14 years ago, I had to have a dish put on the roof. Took years to sort out. Now I can get 115/40Mbps. I am in a long wait for the new upgrades of Fibre 1000/1000Mbps. But I’ve been told my area is about to start. But there is a very long story with that and I could by a small chance miss out. Something to do with the way they built my street.
The long story is for another day, this is already off topic.

That's what I thought but then you mentioned down under which usually means OZ Land. Yes, you can create up to 4 accounts per non-GV number. But we only have two non-GV numbers remaining and I am sure some of the temp accounts used the previous landline number which is now a GV number to create before it was GV so the current accounts I have seem to hit the limits of 4 per phone number. Some people have gotten more than 4 so it's not something set in stone. Never mind, I was also able to create a new account with the GV number. It's signing up for Google Voice that required a real landline or cell phone number. I just remember I tried a few years ago and I couldn't get pass the verification so maybe what they do is you can only create so many accounts using that GV number within a certain time period and then it will reset and allow it again.

The FidoNet SysOp who gave me the Telebit TrailBlazer back in 1987 told me that in OZ, the government actually controlled what modems can be used and the Telebit was the only one allowed. Even though I visited OZ, I've never gotten internet access legally because the host did not provide it and the hotels didn't provide it either unless on paid for it when we went on the tours so at the hosts place, I had to use someone who left their WiFi opened. I know in the 1990s, I used to invest in a company called OZEmail I believe on the public stock market, forgot what happened to it as I think someone did a all cash buyout as I no longer had shares.

Yeah, I’m not so sure about that. But today, some ISP’s limit what you can do in your router, and restrict you from loading other firmware into it as a mod due to their ISP proprietary software/firmware. Some.
We have an awesome forum in Oz called whirlpool. Extremely helpful for all things internet (and other stuff) it’s huge. Although some of the members are a little arrogant, but you get that everywhere, don’t you.

I was talking about the 1980s when there wasn't a 9600bps standard yet so only 2400bps was standard. Telebit's PEP worked well because it can even connections with huge amounts of line noise and Australia was basically connecting to everyone that required long distance under the water
connections so I guess they picked what was the best technology wise and everyone can only buy the approved modem models that the government approved, not sure if they had to buy them via the government or with certain vendors though. As for the other stuff, that's how they usually do it everywhere if the equipment is provided by the provider pretty much anywhere or even if purchased and it's specifically made for their service like even cable modems that are purchased, only the provider will load their own firmware on the customer owned modem, the customer cannot replace the firmware with something else. They even control what features of the modem one has access to like the Arris S33 has a spectrum analyzer but the firmware disables it. So it really depends on if these are big guerilla sized providers or not as these are usually companies that usually provide the telephone service or the paid tv service that would fall into that category of the restrictions.
Looks like OZEmail was bought by WorldCom (later MCI) and the Chairman of OZEmail Malcolm Turnbull became Prime Minister of Australia later on. OZEmail later was bought out by iiNet and the OZEmail name disappeared. WorldCom which is based in the US was in a major scandal and everything they had was basically sold off to others. If I am not mistaken, I think Optus and Telstra also are big Australian telecom carriers.

Yeah I know mate, that’s when I got my first PC Dial up modem. I scored them when debt collecting. BYO modems have been the thing here in Oz for a couple of decades, firmware edited by original firmware creators (from what I understand) can be used in modems when savvey enough. That forum I mentioned is full of info about that. But as you said, things like cable is slightly different. But cable is (was) available here without need for TV viewing. You can get internet from telephone providers without using their telephone services. Cable was actually quite fast back in the day, 1 megabyte a second which was huge lol
Don’t get me started on Turnballs. Not allowed in this forum anyway.
