We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
  • Continue using Reflect 8 for as long as you want. You will continue to have access to 12 months technical support from the date you bought the licenses.
  • Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year of support from the date of purchase) and receive a 3-year Annual Plan at no extra cost. Macrium may make loyalty offers available at the end of your 3-year term. However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.

That's easy enough to verify. Just send your PC five years into the future (2030 will do, just set the BIOS date).

Reflect X expires, as expected, to 'Restore Only'

(Don't worry, it's reversible, just set the date back to normal and Reflect runs normally again.)

But the Rescue media, whether run from the Boot menu or a USB, remains fully functional whatever the date.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Well, you might if Windows changed things or you wanted new features. I ran a trial version of X and the rescue USB is still working.

I do not think it is a good idea to change the time in BIOS. I did it once and it 'expired' a program. Resetting the BIOS time did NOT reenable the program.
Anyway,some trial programs just count how many times you open them and end after thirty uses.

Other trial/subscription software may self destruct on expiry, but not an installed Reflect (8.1 or X). All it does is check the current date, and if it's within the allowed range it will run - and only the installed software, the rescue media makes no such checks.

What you see in that screenshot is a full backup taking place five years after the expiry date, run from Reflect X in the boot menu.

Macrium had no personal information. For this test I installed Reflect X on a test laptop, without using my key. Doing so puts it in a '30-day Trial' mode with a generic trial key. The installed Reflect expired purely on changing the date, the rescue media just doesn't check dates.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Wow - this is the first time in years that I ever recollect there being a bug in making an actual backup, although I am pretty sure very few ever make an uncompressed backup. Most bugs are usually pretty rare and obscure.
  • Build 8731 contained an erroneous calculation that could potentially cause image file corruption when taking uncompressed backups. The calculation has been fixed and Reflect will automatically generate a new full image when the next backup is run - if corruption is detected. Backups using any other form of compression, including the default options, are not affected.

Making an uncompressed backup probably qualifies as an 'obscure' action;). At least Macrium upheld their reputation for a speedy response time, just two weeks for a fix.

That was over 7 years ago on V7, and even then you needed CBT activated which I never bother with.

As you say, Paramount fixed recent bug in 2 weeks.

That is why I pay a licence fee - I have already had two issues sorted by MR support plus one suggestion I made added to Reflect.

I kind of rather get amused when people who use VX come here for support (as V8 only gave 1 year support), but now MR support is included with lease (no one year limit anymore provided lease is continued). Sure there are great guys (like yourself) but to me the best place to ask is MR support - you get ticket number, tracking etc.

Despite all the free versions out there, none have a formal tracking system - to me that is worth the price of 3 pints per annum.

-I HAVE RE-MADE THE DEFINITION FILE AND EVEN CHANGED COMPRESSION (WAS MEDIUM DEFAULT, TO HIGHEST) AND STILL THE SAME ERROR
-I HAVE VERIFIED THE PROBLEMATIC BACKUP FILES WITH REPAIR ENABLED AND WITHOUT AND IT REPORTS NO ISSUES
-I AM STILL LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS, NO-ONE HAS POSTED THIS PUBLICLY SO FAR

I have build 8750 and can mount and explore images either from within Reflect or Explorer. Perhaps the incompetence lies elsewhere?

Did you test backups made using build 8731 and later?
