I hope it works. I forget if I had to submit a support ticket or if I contacted them through my Macrium account when I needed my key reset.

It will work. I have done it a few times, transferring it between PC's when I got a new laptop. Remove key & uninstall on old PC; install & apply key on new PC, no interaction with support.

I'm testing Hasleo. Did not realise it can be added to Windows boot manager just like MR.

...and it can do incrementals, and explore an image file and extract file(s). It's getting more like MR every day....

For a single v8 perpetual licence at £57.99 that would get you 3 years of v10 Home at less than £20 per year.

Well I've put my money (literally) where my mouth is. I now have a new v8 perpetual licence in addition to my 4-pack (bought 3 years ago at a 50% discount as an upgrade for my v7 4-pack). My Hyper-V host machine has my largest system images, so it now has the new v8 key and awaits the release of Reflect X. I have more machines than licences, so one of my machines with Reflect Free v8.0 is the lucky recipient of its previous 4-pack key.

There's over 350GB to back up, and verifying take almost as long as imaging!
And this is on a machine with a 10th gen i7 and an NVMe SSD.

With luck I may be soon able to find out if that 2x faster backup holds up in real life. The next Patch Tuesday is on October the 8th, and so is the launch of Reflect X.....

....the fate of my v8 4-pack very much depends on these results, and on what trade in offers Macrium may make for those of us with older v8 licences.

As things stand today I am staying with v8 till one day it stops functioning on that yet-to-be-named future version of Windows.

Evaluating other backup/imaging software will give me a painful feeling of deja vu. I tried (and paid for) several major backup/imaging solutions before settling on Macrium Reflect. A decision that has served me very well for over a decade and still counting.

TBH I am not looking forward to evaluation exercises. However, should Macrium refuse to offer perpetual licenses for version X or come up with a reasonable subscription fee ($50/year/machine is absolutely nuts and I have a 4 pack license) I'd have no other choice. This is a wakeup call.

Made several backups with Hasleo , though Macrium is my first Backupper , always 100% ok !
I have no experience with backup-repair of Hasleo , wonder if it will repair your OS just as good as Macrium does............

I'm not sure what "repair" means here but if you mean returning your OS partition to a previous point in time with an image restoration, I have done hundreds of these operations using Hasleo without incident. I have enough confidence in Hasleo that I have completely replaced Macrium REFLECT with Hasleo as my primary imaging software. REFLECT has assumed my backup imaging solution as Hasleo was prior to the change.

In post #205 I showed how I could get Reflect X for three years at the equivalent of £20 per year ($27 US) by buying a v8 perpetual licence now. In three years there may well be another new version of Reflect so whether it's a perpetual or a 3-year licence makes little practical difference.

A similar upgrade offer at a discount may be made for older v8 licences (single or 4-pack) but if so this won't be announced until Reflect X is released.

Macrium Free V8 still works -- nobody can stop you continuing to use it until it finally "conks out" depending on future updates to Windows.

I bought a perpetual license for EaseUS Todo which includes all future updates as Tech Radar said it was the fastest. MR backs up and restores my 38GB in 2 mins 30 sec. EaseUS was under 2 mins for backup but 4 mins for a restore. To make a recovery ISO took 15 minutes including the downloads from MS. But to make a bootable USB it does that download again and takes another 15 minutes!
A 'hot' backup is even slower. I'll repeat these tests after rebooting my laptop each time. I did select fast compression and high priority.

I doubt it, I expect Reflect X to be the only version of Home they'll show on their website for you buy.

There is (as yet, shrouded in mystery) a LTSC version of v8. Maybe that will become available - who knows?

Now this is an interesting choice of words (my bold)....

Our long time forum "friend" Nick is no longer the chief honcho.

Obviously new CEO is tasked with financial growth and we "little guys" no longer count. We Home users did not even get a mention as a footprint .

I'm interested in buying a Reflect 8 licence for my main PC before 8 October then trading that in for a 3 year annual plan for Reflect X. The Reflect 8 licence today costs £57.99 for a one time purchase for one PC. I can't find any discounts on that price. Does anyone know how much a Reflect X 3 annual licence will cost?

Yes, I have done just that for one of my PCs. £57.99 for 3 years of Relect X seems a reasonable price to pay.

There are no prices yet for anything other than a 1 year annual plan. That's currently £36.99 for v8. Macrium have said the may well introduce 3-year and even 5-year plans, but no firm details on that yet.

I'm a Windows Insider and I am running Win11 v 24H2 daily using MR V8 -- and it works just fine. Since this is rumoured to be the "next" version of Windows, I am not worried about MR V8 not working anymore in the near future.

It's not often, but OS changes from Microsoft that break Reflect have happened before. If you were an Insider in 2018 then you may remember the last time this happened. If it happens again after v8 goes out of extended support there's no guarantee there will be a fix.

And the patch for these OS changes was subsequently back-ported to v6 when that Insider build made it to public release as Win10 1903.
