New HP laptop cannot find camera...


I cannot contact HP online again until Tuesday, and am in any case very sceptical regarding any further advice from their technical assistance.
Assuming your device is under warranty, To get to someone reasonably knowledgeable in support you have to demand to speak to a live human being and then most likely again demand that your case be escalated to next level support. Chat support or even first level support usually won't cut it with hardware issues. You'll go around in circles and pull your hair out but that's just the way it is. Most of the OEMs work the same way, but HP is one of the very worst to get any service from.

The last time I had to call them I used this number but do not know if it is still good. However it is in the US. 1-800-474-6836
If it were me and the return policy is still active, I would return it to where I bought it..

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and suggestions. Nothing worked, unfortunately. The online HP assistants closed the case because of 'inactivity' (the service is not active at weekends, and I was working on Monday and so couldn't contact them before they closed at 6 p.m). I wrote to them again this morning, and they asked me to restore the BIOS, but the recovery files could not be found or were otherwise corrupted. Anyway, at this stage they've agreed to 'repair' the laptop, and will send a courier to collect it on Friday. Let's hope it runs smoothly once I get it back.
