Solved Post Clean install issues: OneDrive etc.


I personally do not use online storage for anything serious, I use my mahoosive 15GB of onedrive for accessing a small amount of data between my own devices, mostly when I am going away when I can upload a few GB of pertinent data and access it if needed,but this is not much these days as I have all my devices on my own internal network and I can load this up before leaving home.

The other reason I do not use online storage is the basic cost of doing so I My local data at home is backed up but is measured in TeraBytes and that much online storage is not cheap

My phone images are not too important to me as I use real DSLR cameras and use RAW format for my photography, I also have unlimited automatic storage for "photos" taken on my Android devices through my Prime membership which means I can occasionally scan through and download any images from my phone that are worth keeping

Id choose the one that says to start when windows boots, I've turned it off in task manager from running when i boot and i've never seen any further of it. Yes its installed but no i haven't seen anything to do with onedrive come up since :)

Did as you suggested (Disabled in Task Manager > Startup), without configuring the screen captures.

Docs, Pics, Music went away, copied them back from ext. drive, Is that fine?

As in you're normal docs,Pics etc? Or those that were in one drive? I can still access the folder that had anything there, It just doesn't run or ask to sync or any of the hoopla that it usually does, My normal files were untouched as i'd expect.

Correct, normal docs, pics, music. BUT I have one safety concern, some documents are worth far more than the highest end pcs...

I'm so 'Old School' that I won't let my data files out of my sight. Let alone on a cloud somewhere, administered by heaven only knows who.
Cell phone? Forgetaboutit! Completely UN-SAFE! "You have the right to remain silent, for anything you say can and will be recorded and may be used against you". Believe it!

Just today, I wrote a Batch File to copy ALL my data files to a large capacity Flash Drive. It only copies files that are new or that have been changed. XCOPY is great for that job. And it only takes a few seconds to run the batch file and update the backup of all my data files on the Flash Drive.

When I do an install of Win-11 (for instance) and before there is any "DATA" to worry about, I make sure One Drive is GONE. Cortana is GONE, and WUDO is turned OFF. And, CtfMon is turned off by "CtfmonRemover.exe".
It actually takes a while to make Win-10 or 11 "SAFE". But it's worth it, to have a clean and safe computer.
I just finished tweaking a new install of Win-11/Pro/64 tonight. And I fixed the Context menu too. (thank you Shawn)

Also Hibernate is OFF, and the huge file it creates in the root directory is GONE too.

After my install/setup of Win-11 and the required program files, I installed 'Win Utilities' and did a registry cleanup, and it removed 317 bad entries.
That's just so Typical!

Don't listen to the endless bs about data security on the Cloud. The guys who spout this garbage are just paranoid bores. There are far more important things in life to worry about.

The best strategy is to keep critical data on external drives AND on Onedrive. If data is really personal, use its personal storage folder (need to set it up) which uses 2 Factor Account Authorisation.

Issue unresolved, 4 pics still showing in Photos widget. Despite unpinning and re adding Photos widget they still show up..:confused:

Is this some thing that regedit could resolve? :unsure:

How can I associate all audio files with it, in settings in one click/command and all video/media files with VLC?
