Problems with Syncing

HOW DO I FIX A SYNCHING ISSUE? - I live in a caravan park as a permanent resident and have had to use a tablet using my mobile phone data to see tv - so I have had to link my mobile, my laptop and my tablet to do what I need. I have had an issue with my laptop as - for some reason - audio has gone - laptop is saying that there are no devices connected. I had them for the last 8 months and then for some reason the sound disappeared - for a month or so I have been able to remove the devices and then when I logged back in the reconnected but the last time it did not work. I contacted the manufacturer and now have to return the laptop to them BUT I would not have access to anything for however long it takes for them to fix my my laptop so I have borrowed a friends spare laptop and synched all my devices. Now I cannot undo the synching - I have turned off synch on all devices but my devices are all still synching - how do I stop them all - my phone - 2 laptops and a tablet? Any help will be really appreciated - my computer support is almost non existent as the town I live in only has about 600 people - will really appreciate any help.

There are different ways to connect a device.

Bluetooth, Phone Link, there are devices that can show in your Microsoft Account etc
You need to give us more information. Ordinarily I would say, “undo what you did”

- Please tell us how you linked the devices in the first place?
- What method you used to link and sync your devices.
- Please be detailed.
- Please also tell us exactly what devices you linked: Laptop, Android Phone, iPhone, iPad?

Hi

I purchased a Soniq laptop in August last year and in the set jup pro cess it asked if KI wanted to synch my devices - a Nokia T20 tablet and a Galaxy S23 mobile. I have had issues with the laptop and decided to buy another laptop a Kogan and the same happened during set up - I agreed to synch to my other devices. I now need to return the Soniq under warranty and need to remo ve all my data and am having issues because of the synching.

Sheryl, this would be what you need. Choose the option to remove all files. Option Two would be the easiest process.

Also, it could very well be that you could repair the audio by doing an in-place upgrade. But if you would proffer to return the device, that’s fine.

TY for the information - just one last question if I do the reset on the original laptop will it have any effect on the new one? e.g. if the folders and files etc. are removed will it also remove them from the other laptop?

I think that would depend on if you use OneDrive and even then, I don’t believe so.
I might have to let someone else answer.

So all devices are logged into OneDrive with the same Microsoft account?

I don’t use OneDrive, but at a guess (if nobody else is available) it is tricky and would probably involve removing the laptop being returned from your Microsoft account, but like I said, tricky. Digital licences etc

Sheryl I know you’re wanting to deal with this but I am not at all confident with OneDrive to be advising you past how to reset Windows. I wouldn’t want you to lose files.

I would wait.

By any chance do you have an external drive that you could backup your files to, or on the new laptop, create a folder that isn’t shared with OneDrive and copy your files into it?

I will actually be stepping out shortly, I am hoping someone can assist you with the OneDrive issue.

TY - I have been trying to remove that laptop from synching but even by turning it off it still affects my other devices - if worst comes to worst I will get a flash drive to back up the files or find another storeage platform to put them on. Love Windows but sometimes their improvements make life more difficult. Will wait for your colleague's reply.

Welcome to the forum Sheryl.

One of the advantages of OneDrive is that you can use the same Microsoft Account and have the same OneDrive on two or more different devices. This way two or more devices can use, share, and update the same set of files.

If one of the devices fails or is reset, the OneDrive files are not affected. You would have to actually delete a OneDrive file using something like File Explorer in order to remove a file from cloud OneDrive.

I've used OneDrive for more than 15 years and share the same OneDrive account on 5 different devices. I subscribe to Microsoft 365 which includes a terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage on each of my devices. I love it.

The flash drive is a great idea.
Backup your files (regardless as it’s always a safe practice)
Go to your Microsoft account, remove the laptop you are returning from your Microsoft account
Reset the laptop using the tutorial I posted above.

Do not reconnect the laptop to your Microsoft Account, disable the internet on it pre reset. I don’t think you need the internet to reset your laptop.
