When I boot up my computer, I get a little window rhat presents two choices.
1. Use the PIN sign-in.
2. Use the password sign-in.
I would prefer no sign-in at all. No one has access to my system.

Question number 1. Is there some way to eliminate sign-in ?

If the answer is "no", then question number 2. Is there a way to have just the PIN number sign-in, without the password choice?

Thanks for reading

First of all, I want to tell you my problem has been solved.
A big "Thank You", for replying and solving the sign-in problem.

What happened was, I thought I had done everything listed. But when I read the instructions you directed me to, I realized I failed to follow those instructions cpmpletely.
I completely missed:
"If you turned on For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (aka: passwordless sign-in), you will not see the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box until you turn off For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device."

Yep! I didn't remove that check mark. So that pretty well stopped me in my tracks.😮

Again, thanks for taking the time to help an old man set things right.😊

I’m glad you sorted it all out. I also like to load straight into windows, @MrWho . At a certain age, every second becomes more valuable.

P.S.
Just so you know. It’s usually the reason many people don’t get this to work right away (the windows hello part)

I am wanting to get rid of my sign on to Windows 11 and just boot straight into it. Saw this thread and gave it a try and now it is all messed up. First now when I boot up it comes to sign on screen with a message incorrect password. Only way I can get in is to choose my pin to sign in, I enter my old pin and can finally sign in. I followed the tutorial on these forums to do this and thought I followed it accurately but now this is what I am left with.

Is there any way I can achieve what I want? If not how do I get it back to where it just gives me a screen to enter pin like it used to? And how can I recover my password as none of mine seem to work now, only the pin? Much thanks for any assistance! I am the only user and really just do not want the security sign in options, just straight to desktop.

I am on Windows 11 Home if it makes any difference.

Yes -- go to the account change the password and leave both fields empty Press enter to change the password
If the answer is "no", then question number 2. Is there a way to have just the PIN number sign-in, without the password choice?
Yes -- when you choose pin as log in then Windows will only use pin as log in

It isn’t uncommon if using the netplwiz method.
The work around is; when you change the netplwiz, without closing netplwiz, undo and redo it about 4 times, then the system will be flushed and you should no longer have this issue. I don’t know why it is, but it’s how I fixed this problem.
I believe I found that fix in the Ten Forum.

Ok thanks - however I am not sure the exact steps I should take at this point with what I have?

Sorry for the delay.

Assuming you have followed Option one; Enable or "Disable" Automatically Sign in Account at Startup in Netplwiz (Step 4)

You don't need to close or re-open netplwiz each time you repeat the following: You just need to click apply or netplwiz will close and you'll have to reopen it each time. Close it when you've completed the repeats.

(Assuming you already disabled)

Do option one step 3 (enable)
Do option one step 4 (disable)
Do option one step 3 (enable)
Do option one step 4 (disable)
Do option one step 3 (enable)
Do option one step 4 (disable)
Do option one step 3 (enable)
Do option one step 4 (disable)

Repeating the steps 4 or 5 times and ending on the Disable step #4, should ensure you don't need to sign in or use a pin when windows starts.
Doing (repeating) the above, flushes out any settings that windows has saved re password login

Goodness I am so worried I am going to manage to completely lock myself out of my PC. Why in the world does MS have to make something so simple so dang complex augh. Will give it a try here shortly, keeping fingers crossed.
I am starting from a point where when I boot up, I am greeted with an error at sign on and have to select to use pin and use my old pin to be able to sign on. Password does not work at all. If you don't hear from me for a while it probably went bad on me.

Thanks,

Hmm from what I am seeing in the links step 3 and step 4 both are identical, little confused.

I started to try it and backed out when it appeared they were both identical steps to enable/disable. Rebooted PC just to check and make sure still can get in and now am greeted by pin screen rather than sign on with error message so all I have to do is enter pin again - like it used to be. Weird.
Ok I will leave well enough alone and hang tight for a while - but sure would love to totally get rid of sign on screen if can.

They are identicle. It was the easiest way for me to express the fact that you have to undo and redo the steps about 4 times.
At least I thought it was the easiest way.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear, i’ve been at the hospital, mum had to have emergency open heart surgery. I was distracting myself by staying on the forum and maybe not focusing properly

It’s not as much complex as it is a pain in the butt.
Not everyone has to do this. Some PC’s need a kick for the netplwiz, thats all

No worries, thanks so much for the help. Hope your Mom has a good recovery! I will have another look later in day when I get brave again lol. Will let ya know when I do.

Thanks much!

I’m going to try find where I seen this on the ten forum (or here)
I have had to do it this a few times in the past. I had the same issue as you, incorrect password. And a non existent admin account once.

Changing the settings in Netplwiz doesn't affect/change your password if you originally had one. It just tells windows that you no longer want to use the password to log into windows. The password doesn't go anywhere.
Turning off HELLO just tells windows that you don't want to use the pin (basically)

I think the best way to explain is for you to just follow Brinks tutorial (option one) then know that you may have to undo and redo the steps a number of times (I do it 4 times) so that windows loses any stubborn setting. Which is basically what was mentioned when I found the suggestion in the first place. (Having trouble finding it using my ipad)

I think what is confusing me is Brink's instructions for Step 4 are identical for Step 3. They both show to check the box for user name and password required. If I uncheck it, it prompts me to enter a user name and password so not sure I should proceed. I find this very confusing. I tried even though it was same doing that 4 times but made no difference, still requires a password or pin to sign in.

Why in the world would MS make something that should be so simple to be so dang complex. Is there an error in Brink's instructions there or am I really missing something?

When it asks you to enter a username (which is usually pre filled, first 5 letters) and your password, Windows is asking you to pre fill your password so Windows can log in for you.

When you check the box “User must enter a user name and password…“ and click ok or apply, no further action is needed because the action will be you having to log in when windows starts up.

When un-checking “User must enter a user name and password…“ and clicking ok or apply, it will ask you to enter your log in/account password (pre-fill) so that you don’t need to use it when windows starts up.

Windows Hello needs to be turned off so windows doesnt ask you for a pin either. I know you understand this part so I assume you have done it. There is a thread for this in Ten forum, its 24 pages long. So you are not the only person that has had problems.
(FYI turning off Hello, will not wipe your pin it just informs windows you don’t want to use it to log in.)

Do you use a Microsoft account for logging into windows ****@outlook.com? I ask this because there was a time a while ago where instead of the first 5 letters of my username as the login name, I had to use my full Microsoft account name “****@outlook.com” in the Netplwiz username section. Nothing else worked and I never asked in forum or worked out why.
And do you have 2 accounts? An admin account and a general user account? Or just the Admin (like me)
When windows boots and asks you for a pin or password, are there any other accounts listed in the bottom left corner?
