Hello everyone,

I'm not entirely sure if this belongs in the Virtualization section, but I am experiencing this issue inside a VM: the Start menu is not working.

So far, I have tried the following fixes without success:

1. Restarted and rebooted (neither worked)
2. Restarted Windows Explorer
3. Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (all checked out well)
4. Ran sfc /scannow (no violations found)

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

tecknot

Hi FreeBooter,

I tried to boot into Safe mode in my VM by holding down the Shift key, but that didn't work. How do I enter into Safe mode in my VM?

Also, I tried to create a new account, but I just got a flash of a gray window.

Kind regards,

tecknot

Try clean boot state.

A clean boot is a troubleshooting technique that allows you to get the computer up and running so that you can perform diagnostic tests to determine which elements of the normal boot process are causing problems.

Gotcha. Okay, Start Menu still didn't work under a clean boot. Will I have to reinstall my VM? I put a lot of work into it already and would hate to have to start all over again.

Try different user account you can also repair install Windows 11.

You can also perform in-place upgrade of Windows 11. In-place upgrade is to use to replace the current operating system files on your computer. Unlike a clean installation of Windows, you can start a Windows in-place upgrade when your OS is still running. And an in-place upgrade can keep your files, settings, & apps during the upgrade process. You can perform a Windows 11 in-place upgrade is to use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. Make sure to select Upgrade this PC now and click Next. Follow the on-screen guide to perform a Windows 11 in-place upgrade.
