I have a SSUPD Meshlicious casing which has a usb-c port at the front.

I realised that my SSD external drives (Sandisk Extreme Pro) or a hard drive enclosure using usb-c is unable to connect to the usb-c port.

I have a few usb-c to usb-c cables and tried them all (most from reputable brands like Anker etc), and it turns out only the one provided by Sandisk can work. However, the speed of the usb-c connection is USB 2.0, it caps out at 43 MB/s based on CrystalDiskMark results.

All my usb-c to usb-c cables can work with the rear usb-c port, and it works at 1000+MB/s, which is usb 3.2 gen 2 speeds.

Is this an issue with the driver of the front usb-c port or how the usb-c port is connected to the header of the motherboard?

I used USB Device Tree Viewer to check the capabilities of both the front and rear usb-c port, and both appears to support usb 3.0. Hence, I am confused.

The header on the motherboard for the front panel USB-C is USB 3.2 Gen 1, which is supposed to be the same as USB 3.0. (The naming convention has become very confusing.) It's slower than the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports in the rear I/O panel.

I'm pretty sure that the connector from the case is the right type for the motherboard's header.

I can't guess why it's just giving you transfer rates in the USB 2 range. It doesn't seem to be using a third-party controller, and there are no special drivers for it.

Is there anything interesting visible in Device Manager?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Maybe the connection to the motherboard is a bit bad for the USB-C port-cable from the case. Try reseating it. Or the plug in the case is bad. Everything seems to point to similar issues since a perfectly working cable seems to barely work for you in the front USB-C port. Looking at the screenshot above, the plug you are interested in, is the plug in point 14.

For USB3.0 speeds all data pins has to be connected properly.

Thanks all for the advice, I will take a look at the connections to the motherboard.

I am not very familiar with the internals as I didn't build the PC myself, I guess it is time for me to familiarise myself :look:

Hi all, just an update. The cable from the header to the motherboard is indeed loose. After reseating the cable, all's well :)

I have gotten USB 3.2 Gen 1 (aka normal USB 3.0) speeds on the front USB-C port now. Cheers and thanks to all!
