What is your favorite email client and why?


My favourite was Thunderbird but recent updates have killed off (now incompatible) some of the more popular extensions.

I know this is not Mozilla's fault, but one would have expected Mozilla to monitor the popularity of which addons are frequently/constantly installed, and maybe consider those features as built-in user settings options for subsequent releases (altho I do know of one that is now standard). Instead, they're content just to leave it to generous 3rd parties

Going over to (or rather, back to) eMClient, much wider selection of user settings.

Thunderbird 100%. It works well, over many years I've a good understanding of how it works and I have written my own script to back it up and restore it. Building a new PC, I was up and running where I left off in minutes.

I want my private emails kept on my own PC. I would not want them on some server in the cloud that can be used to target adverts at you or might be closed down tomorrow.

The emails I get, are only important emails from family, things I ordered in the Internet, my energy provider, etc. As I hate newsletters and other spammy mails, I do as much as I can to throw them way before they reach my E-Mail client (filtering on the mailserver of my provider). And other measures not to get them at all. I do an automatic backup of the whole email file at once to a data area (from where it is automatically backed up to external sources once a day).

I used Outlook for years as it was the gold standard industry email client that I'd used in every job since email became mainstream. However, it went through a patch a few years ago when it wasn't as stable and would frequently corrupt, so I tried out lots of other clients and settled with eM Client, which is just like Outlook but has better integration into Google services that I use such as the calendar that Outlook at the time never could.

Thunderbird on my laptop and Outlook on my iPhone. email that I want saved are moved to local messages on TB and are no available on iPhone. Similar situation for my wife who has thousands of stored local message per year stored in local files. No issue managing them with TB, and weekly backup to cloud and offline storage.

Only 2 or 3 TB addons used.

Since I have multiple PCs and devices and only use gmail as my primary email account; I don't use a desktop email client. If I were to decide to install one; I would use Thunderbird.

I'm running three extensions that were marked incompatible with 115. I just edited their manifests, to change the spec from 102 to 115.*, and they now run perfectly, just as before. Maybe look in the 115 customizations thread here for help with that, but it's easy.
