Yeah, appointing the Windows Phone guy (Terry Myerson) or the Surface PC guy (Panos Panay) in charge of Windows didn't work out for mobile devices.

Most people understand Windows versions - only in terms of GUI (to such extent - that you'd think that's all there is to it - just a GUI working on magic). So if it's using a similar GUI - won't make much difference for the majority of users. Tweak freaks - might miss the old Control Panel, they'll definitely miss the registry or even group policy - but who knows - might still have a hidden Dev menu (like Android). Tho, seems more like a long shot - since Microsoft devs are to proud of Windows kernel, of DirectX and their own way of doing things (copying others only in terms of UI). Still, latest releases of Windows - have the biggest codding mess pilled-up underneath... most haunted OS by its predecessors (ancient code, ancient registry entries, outdated group policy entries intended for previous versions, old apps simply ported from older versions of Windows, orphan files, etc).
Was quite ironic - to see so much hate for Windows 11 upon release (and even a year latter) - "REGARDED AS A NEW OS" from Microsoft, where quite a lot of those users - seem more like old dogs who couldn't learn a new trick (which is basically what Windows 11 was - same old same old with couple of new tricks on top). Then again... being a Windows, OSX or Android User - is usually more like a statement - that one is fond of being a novice for life (till OS's EOL - at least), with 0 interest of popping the hood and taking a glance at what's underneath. After all, if they bothered even in the leastest - they could easily notice that Windows 11 was/is more like a feature pack for Windows 10 or older versions...

I like 11, not many problems here, but maybe a freeze up about once a month. I'm just waiting for SpaceX to come out with an new OS.

I tried to switch from Mac to PC during Windows 8, curious as to why all 8 machines invited you to roll back to 7. Five minutes of using 8 and I got it. I returned that laptop. Tried the exact same laptop during Windows 10 introduction and haven't looked back since.
Windows 11 is fine. A little laggy at times but I gather that's being fixed. I have 3 mini pcs in the house and they all work perfectly. I know must users do not run SFCs after each update. I do and have never had a problem. Not one. I've had to reinstall the OS a few times to fix something, only to learn it wasn't the OS.
The only problem with Windows is their casual way of updating. Mac OS would have erased Control Panel entirely with the introduction of 'Settings'. 10 should have launched without Control Panel. But no, in Windows land, improvements take years instead of months.

Apple is working with a completely closed system that they have total control over. Apple writes their OS only for their own totally controlled Apple devices. In the Windows world there are thousands of different models and configurations of different makers, and the OS must work with all of them. I'm amazed that Microsoft does as well as it does.

The problem I discovered recently, is the problem where Windows Update should automatically go into roll-back mode for corruption that should never happen in the first place. I saw that my Windows 11 wasn't even updated correctly, and was forced to re-install the LCU!
And I caught Windows Update this month, failing to detect a severe problem. So, it left some files where there was an error reported for in the event log! App Readiness failing with an error code instead. Random files were not updated, I suspected! Putting loads of users at security risk!
I discovered that incident, after checking the event log again. Not only did SFC (CBS) fail, I experienced errors I don't recall getting before with 11!

IMO, MS should have skipped Windows 8.0 and waited until Windows 8.1 was ready. I'm still ticked off by what MS did to their Windows phones. The best phones I ever owned and MS had to get stupid and instead of increasing their advertisements so more people would know about them, they decided to discontinue them.
