I'm finding that the Ms Store is getting better. They are adding more useful tools like Rufus, TreeSize free, both CrystalDisk apps and of course a lot of printer apps. Nor forgetting ShowkeyPlus.

Most of the scanning software that comes from the scanner manufacturer is only decent but not great.... That's why lots of people use VueScan instead since 1998.

Have "you" actually used vueScan?

As a former VueScan user (still have a lifetime license for the pro version), and current Epson software user this is a false narrative. You might also remember to inform that VueScan is a paid app. There is no "free version". Period.

That said, I will add this... if the Epson scanner software that came with the OP's Epson V800 no longer works (due to lack of OS support), the OP can try the trial version of VueScan to see how the scanner performs, then decide if they want to pay either $40-dollars for the standard edition or $100 bucks for the Pro edition.

Yes, I have used VueScan Pro since 1998 with the first being a HP ScanJet 2C and I have also used SilverFast which comes with the high-end Epson V scanners like the V750 Pro and newer. Many people on this forum recommends things that are not free and if they visited the page, it already says it's not free as the OP wanted to have a working scanner and it's one of the options should everything else fail and it's still cheaper than buying a new scanner. No different than when I was asking about Hyper-V and people are talking about Macrium Viboot which also is not free but it is a option. So it is not a false narrative as VueScan will always work and I've been using it with 5 Epson scanners, 3 HP Scanners among others. Besides that, how many scanning software do you know that is free that is not from the scanner manufacturer that really exists and works with everything without needing working scanner drivers already installed.

Again, I can only read things as posted not guess what they might mean.

Anyway, the false narrative it that Epson's scan software isn't as good as VueScan's. That might be your "opinion" but opinions aren't facts. I've first tried VueScan in 2001 with my Nikon 4000ED scanner, hated it, and never used it again. My lifetime license for free pro updates is still in effect.

The biggest thing with VueScan now is its ability to be used as a replacement software for scanners no longer supported by their vendor. NOT that the software is superior.

Yes, VueScan is a nice product, but to get the "most" out of it you'll need the Pro edition which currently runs $100 dollars (99.95).

Lastly, I'm actually running Epson's Scan software on my Epson XP-960 basically issue free. What issue I have is minor and does not affect performance of the scanner section of the printer.

Yes, which is why you should never assume things as I provided the link so the OP or whoever else can visit the site where it clearly states there is a free version just to see if it works and also it even mentions the cost if one wants to actually use it instead of me talking about the costs which can change since people can lie, documents including websites would better represent themselves for things like pricing and other stuff. Like you said, everyone has their own opinion and what you said is not facts either. Epson Scan does support ICE while VueScan doesn't. Ofcourse as you know, nothing is perfect so there are always benefits and disadvantages to both like VueScan didn't have Twain before but it does now. Remember also the $100 is lifetime so it's not like you are paying every year for it or for each scanner you have which is why it depends on whoever is using the product how they value things and if it is worth it or not. The superiority of Vuescan is actually from discussions on UseNet newsgroups of people who do heavy scanning as it's the image quality which was how it got a big userbase since they would not last this long charging for a license if no one liked it and the software was bad. You also never said why you didn't like VueScan, just you hated it. No different than someone saying they hated Windows without stating why they hated it. Some people might not like VueScan for the interface or thing it's too complicated with a learning curve to use among other things but that doesn't mean VueScan is not good since remember you hated it so ofcourse you would think Epson Scan is superior because it's free but a lot of people actually bought the Epson Perfection Pro scanners because of Ed Hamrickof Vuescan's recommendation.

They all have their good points and bad points. Ofcourse that is not to say that Epson Scan cannot improve over time in quality.

Besides, it seems no one has gotten good results with the Nikon 4000ED scanner with Vuescan except I have not seen anyone actually working with Vuescan support to try to get it working correctly either even in 2004 and 2005 which was already 3-4 years later after you tried Vuescan.

Also, keep in mind that your XP-960 is a MFP which is $320 while the OP's V800 was over $2000 in 2015 so if it means investing $100 will make the scanner work, then it might be worth it as spending $100 to keep a $2000 product working is different than spending $100 to keep a $300 product working and it will also support whatever other scanners you have too.

While I've not used Silver Fast, I know the name. I'm also aware of scanners, Epson, and VueScan. And having actually used VueScan with my Nikon 4000ED scanner back in 2004 the software worked without issue, I just preferred Nikon's software.

Anyway, as not to deep dive in trying to convince each other in our view, I'll just move on. Plus, I'd rather stick to the OP's issue.

No one is trying to convince anyone of anything except you're in the minority of thinking VueScan is not superior to Epson Scan which is all I am saying. The only reason I mentioned 2004 and 2005 for the Nikon 4000ED Scanner is because of this thread:
as it would appear while Vuescan worked, no one was able to get the best image scan results.

I don't talk about things I have no experience with which was your question in the initial response. Silver Fast actually came with the Pro versions of the Epson Perfection V scanners and if you think about it, Epson is the one who made it seem like Epson Scan was not good enough so they have to include a commercial product from a competitor which costs more than VueScan although the version included is a LE version and not these as the one purchased.

Even with VueScan, you can pay the $100 with no risk as if you don't like it, you have 7 days to get a full refund. I was ust giving the OP a alternative since no one talked about anything else other than the manufacturers support as old hardware will eventually lose support eventually and having an alternative is still better than having hardware you can't do anything with, whatever the OP decides on is the OP's choice and not anyone else's decision.

The OP has not responded so it would be hard to stick to the OP's issue as there is only so much others can do which is all based on their input and ofcourse Epson to release the update so the OP can try it. You already gave up in post #19 in this thread when you already offered your suggestion in post #17 and had nothing else to suggest and basically wished the OP good luck.

At any rate, your issue was with a "Canon Multifunction printer", but the OP's issue is with an "Epson" scanner

And Epson Scan was not needed either! One thing no one mentioned is that with MFPs, there are a few products out there where the scanner will not work if you are out of ink which seems to be a issue with Canon and Epson even though Canon got sued for it.

Yeah, but the OP's isn't "printer" related. Theirs is about a dedicated scanner (Epson V800). And their software does install. There are also recent (Windows 11) drivers for the scanner so I've no idea why their issue.

Sorry but all this "printer" and low/no ink theory talk doesn't address the OP's issue since their scanner isn't part of any printer.

Did you actually read the OP's first post? Did you actually look at the Epson V800 link I posted? If so, you'd realize this is NOT about multifunctional printers.

Not trying to be funny but you seem intent on tying your Canon multifunction printer to the OP's dedicated Epson scanner - yours is a Canon printer. the OP's is an Epson scanner. Not the same.

Anyway, the OP seems to have moved on so I think I'll do the same.

When I try to look for the software/drivers, nothing is listed even though I went to the previous page, there is nothing to select the OS, only the model of the scanner.

There are different parts of the thread as OP was a scanner only but both of us were replying to someone who had a Canon MFP which does have a printer.

Well, this is what I get with the link I provided...


The site "auto detects" my OS as Windows 10 (running Windows 11 Pro RTM), but clicking the dropdown box shows 11 as well.

Under printer and scanner is there an option "let window manage my default scanner"? If you see that option say "no." Delete the scanner , do not reboot and install Epson win 10 drivers for the scanner immediately.

Mine is on and I have no issues with either my multifunctional Epson XP-960 printer with scanner, nor my dedicated Epson photo printer (3880)...

There is a possibility that windows is replacing the driver intermittently at boot up for those who are having intermittent issues. This driver may not be compatible. Just turn OFF windows management of default printer.

I had an issue with wireless adapter (TP-Link USB WiFi Adapter for PC (Archer T4U Plus) where I was getting intermittent disconnect and a feedback on Amazon recommended that I remove the Microsoft driver. This cured the problem for one or two sessions and the problem recurred. I had to return the wireless adapter. The other brand Wise Tiger is working flawlessly.

That's "highly improbable" cause if that was the case everyone with an Epson V800 (or devices using that driver) would be having the same issue. A Google search reports no widespread issue here. Also, as an actual Epson printer / scanner user, I speak with experience when I say I have no issues with the driver package supplied by Epson, and they aren't overwritten by Windows.

Anyway, nothing beats a failure but a try so yeah, give your suggestion a try, but suspect it may not solve anything. In fact, it could make things worse since Windows is no longer controlling things. But...
