The site "auto detects" my OS as Windows 10 (running Windows 11 Pro RTM), but clicking the dropdown box shows 11 as well.

It seems like the auto-detection part takes quite some time. It would really be a lot easier for the OP to see if the scanner works on another computer also running Windows 11 or not or somehow find another V800 user who is using Windows 11 to see if they have the same problems or not.

For V37 they published an utility called "Common updater" for Windows 11 (in the Utilities category)

It silently updates files in \system32\drivers folder

I don't know if it solves the issue, not tested yet

Some Epson printers / scanners will come with an update utility. Here I just got notice of a driver update for my XP-960 printer...

I think that Epson is actually updating all the drivers or their products one by one. With my scanner Epson GT-20000 and the very recent small update, no more issue!
(but I still have issues with my printer XP-15000, drivers are still "old", prior to the official release of Win11)

Well, I got an update as shown for my XP-960, but my Epson 3880 printer hasn't been updated since 2016. Still works though :)

Seems Epson is not doing much to make even supported scanners function well under Windows 11!

I have a similar problem/error; I see a message to the effect that the WIA driver not found/ must install a WIA driver for this device.

I have an older Epson GT-15000 large format flatbed scanner, irreplaceable I think now. Epson now lists the driver download as compatible with Windows 11, however I have to keep reinstalling the driver.

But all utilities need the driver, and that apparently just gets lost!

I have to actually reinstall the driver whenever I turn the scanner off or reboot my computer; restarting WIA doesn't seem to do the trick. I might try keeping it powered on at all times... but I get annoyed by the noisy fan, which stays on way too long after use. I suspected the driver was getting overwritten by updates, and have run a regedit to prevent driver updates. That did NOT solve the problem.

All was just fine on my older Dell PC under Windows 10.

Is there no hope?

Additional note: The full function Epson scan utility does not display correctly on my system, but is somewhat usable if I get creative at clicking on blank spaces to find the buttons! However I can also use a more generic utility that displays correctly, although it lacks features.

Probably the Epson driver is replaced by Windows Update when you restart. Install the Epson driver and then use Windows Update Show/Hide Tool to hide (block) any Epson updates. The scan utility doesn't display correctly on high scaling, such as 125% or 150%. You can change the shortcut properties to ignore system scaling and always run at 100% so you can see all the buttons properly and disable fullscreen optimization. You can also try disabling the transparency and fade effects from Settings, Accessibility.

How long is Epson required to support a 19-year-old scanner?

That said, there does appear to be a Windows 11 driver for it, though going by the date, it's probably a Windows 10 driver supported under 11.

The Windows 10 driver should work properly in Windows 11 too. To avoid Windows Update replacing your working driver see my previous reply

That drivers isn't going to be replaced by Windows Update. I've three older Epson Printers - Epson Stylus 3880, Epson multi-printer with scanner (XP-960), and an Epson 2200 from 2001. Windows have never updated their old drivers

They never do if the hardware is too old and you have already installed the latest drivers.

They never do with new printers either. It's not like I bought any of my printers old or used. Nowhere in their life has "Windows" updated their drivers

Perhaps it's an "Epson" thing (that drivers don't get updated by Windows)

This is the software I have to reinstall every time I reboot my PC or power off my scanner. Works when freshly installed, but then ... it doesn't.
As to the scanner, at this point I would consider spending another $1,200, if I could only find a new high quality larger format flatbed scanner.
The GT-15000 will scan up to 12" x 16" at 600dpi. I have not found anything comparable.

And you may not. Unfortunately, as the market for such scanner's is simply dwindling. BTW, I paid $1,479 bucks for a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 back in 2003. By the time Windows 7 was released (2009) Nikon discontinued driver support, and you couldn't get the scanner's software to work without a driver have. My tutorial here - Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64 - Windows 7 Help Forums. I still have the scanner, but since moving to digital in 2012, it's basically a paperweight now.

Anyway, if you're really intent of keeping the scanner alive, you might give VueScan a try. It supports a myriad of scanners, including Epson, so it may be what you need. Be aware it's a paid program. They used to offer a trial period, but I can't find it.

Don't pay for VurScan before you try it. It doesn't support all the models and also its user interface may not be what you want. Another workaround is to install an appropriate version of Windows in a virtual machine and pass control of the scanner to the virtual machine. Some applications, such as VMWare also support Unity Mode, that is you run the software in a window inside your host rather than the full Windows guest.

Talk about the contrarian.... I did say "They used to offer a trial period, but I can't find it." However, you can in fact try if for free. This way one could try it for themselves to determine whether it's to their liking or not

And per my conversation with @ptartist, their Epson GT 15000 is supported

And there is a list of supported scanners, and I would urge anyone looking to VueScan to make sure their scanner is supported

As for "VM (Virtual Machine) not everyone wants or needs it. Some don't even know what it is or how to maintain it.

I know, the VM is a little more advanced solution, I don't expect everyone to do it. But it is perfect if your printer or scanner driver has a lot of features not easily duplicated by a third party driver and software. I had an old HP scanner not supported by VueScan so I installed Windows XP on a virtual machine to use its old software. Not very practical, so my father eventually gave up and bought a new multifunctional printer (MFP). I was even able to use an old parallel Iomega ZIP drive in Windows 11 by installing it on a Windows XP guest.

Well in this case, the Epson GT-15000 is supported, so the person needing the app can decide for themselves if it's worth it or not.

Does anyone understand what this scan software is? Where it resides? How to find it in Task Manager?

This is the scanner interface that starts from a double click on my GT-15000 scanner device icon, and it works fine when available. This is not the Epson Scan Utility which also seems to work OK as long as I can see the operating buttons (Alt usually displays these).

Of course none of the scan utilities work at all when the device driver becomes unhinged from the system if I reboot with the scanner powered off, or I blink too often... :-(

The photo shows the scan template for using the Epson scanner with WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) drivers. Some models have only WIA drivers, others have only TWAIN and others have both. TWAIN usually gives you more control over the image quality and is preferable for better results. Every manufacturer has its own TWAIN interface, while WIA is Windows' universal interface for importing images from scanners and digital cameras. I don't like WIA because of lack of advanced image control and lower quality. These usually are loaded by the host application performing the scan. You cannot find these in Programs and Features, you must uninstall the whole scanner software. Also is hard to find in Task Manager since they don't have a predicable name such as "Epson..."
