Hi folks
Is there any A.I type of program currently out there that can list the name of a piece of music from an M4A stream -- I don't need artist / composer / year etc - but just the name of the piece. Music is at reasonable compression (256 /320 kbs).

Cheers

Why A.I. for names of songs. Will the stream player not have that in it's data base?
Can you provide the file so we might be able to hear and maybe help with the search?

I don't know the answer to your question. I suppose I would try a M4A audio to text transcriptions service. Some of them claim to work with M4A sources. Whether they will work with music going on in the background is another matter. And whether they will work with audio streams rather than owning the file, I cannot say.

What I can say is what I do is listen to the song's chorus or opening verse and then do a bing search for matching phrases. Then Genius Song Lyrics often show up in the search results, and that gives me the song title. There is the Genius website, and there are also other similar sites that appear to do the same thing. Sometimes the sites offer translation into English, if the song title is given in a foreign language.

Also, sometimes YouTube allows you to search for a song by the "wrong" title. The "wrong" title often can be a line from the chorus that other people thought was the song's title, and hence shows up in the YouTube search results. Only works for some songs, notably more famous and successful songs.

The problem is that it's a classical radio program downloaded (legally) from BBC R3 and it contains several different works.

The original program data / info from he BBC web site has long since disappeared so it's hard to get what's on it. I'm surprised with decent A.I around and fairly uncompressed music that there wouldn't be some sort of program around that can recognize at least some more popular music streams -- I don't need the artist, tagging info or whatever but just the name of the piece. It shouldn't be too difficult - especially for more popular classical music streams where authors copyright is not an issue (generally). One could presumably make up a database of say the ist 30 secs (should be enough) of music by well known composers and just compare the stream with what's on the DB -- it's not an airport or police security voice scan -- a reasonably approximate "best guess" should be enough around 95% of the time.

If I had the equipment and time I could probably construct such a thing myself -- at least a limited version. - Any budding accoustic engineers out there -- I'm sure something like this would be a winner -- you aren't trying to pirate anything - merely recognize the music streams.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi there
I want something that works on a computer. Mobile phone apps are fine for some things but usually "I HATE THOSE THINGS" -- especially if you use any sort of public transport - especially in London.

Those London Brit's must have the loudest voices on planet earth with 40% of women on typical London Suburban trains screeching about Bowel or Husband problems.

As for UK give me York,Manchester, Beverley or even Hull any day of the week.At least in those communities people try and connect with real people, not just those in the "Virtual Social media space".

Cheers
