Action center not working on Win 11

Recently the action center stopped working. Clicking the wifi/sound/battery icon results in a 1-2 minutes wait after which this black strip appears instead of the action center. I suspect some recent update in the last month bugged it. Is there a way to reset it? Updating and restarting does nothing.

Try this and see if it works...

Right click on Start, click on Windows Terminal, paste this and then hit Enter...
Get-AppxPackage | % { Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppxManifest.xml" -verbose }

Once it's done, close Windows Terminal, Reboot your PC and see if Action Center now works.

Thanks for the reply. The command completes but throws many errors and ultimately nothings changes. If anything, Safe mode now behaves very strangely - no wifi even on Safe mode with networking, can't search apps in the start menu and many don't load.

I believe repair install saves the files and settings. You'll see prior to doing it.

A repair install will remove third-party apps that you installed on your machine so you will have to reinstall them after the process has finished. Visit the link below for details on doing a repair install using Windows 11.

Whatever you do, make sure you use something like Macrium Reflect (the free edition) to create a backup of your system.

Try this but use the 64 bit version of powershell in admin mode :

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

This sometimes works. Reboot machine.

I have one machine where nothing fixes the wretched thing so what I did was install W10 on it (got latest iso from UUPDUMP) and then did an upgrade to W11 !!!. That worked perfectly.

Sadly nothing again. A reinstall would probably be the only solution. What a nightmare Win 11 is from a bugs standpoint...

More specifically, it will not remove your programs and personal data. The apps that get removed are the Microsoft apps installed from the Windows Store....
If you are having problems with Windows 11 on your PC and the usual solutions will not fix Windows 11, you can do a repair install of Windows 11 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything.

You will keep all accounts, apps, and personal data.

I've done a few Repair Installs myself as they are the next best thing to a clean install, with the difference being you keep your programs and personal data with a repair install.
