Solved Are there different versions of Notepad?

My computer Windows 11 Pro is v22H2, Build 22621.1848 and if I open Notepad I see File Edit View in the menu bar (first photo). I have noticed other users have posted photos of their Notepad UI and they see File Edit Format View Help (second photo).
The Notepad icon on mine is different and does not show 'Notepad' but this is what I see when I open Notepad so I am assuming that it is Notepad but with a different UI. See the two photos. Why the difference?

You have the latest version with tabs (the "+" sign after the current tab is New Tab).

Support for multiple tabs in Notepad is available starting with version 11.2212.33.0.

(See About this app at Notepad Settings.) What build/version are the others using?

Just uninstall modern Notepad. Create a new shortcut with C:\Windows\notepad.exe . That's it baisically.

Why?

Why? Because one is legacy and the other one is a modern App.

That's not a reason for replacing the new one with the old one.

I didn't. I said, "Why?" (uninstall)

@Fabler2 - Thank you. I prefer the legacy version so, as per your suggestion in post #3 I uninstalled Notepad and now when I launch Notepad I get the legacy version. I didn't even need to create the shortcut. Instead I clicked on 'Start' and then typed 'Notepad' and clicked on the icon that was displayed and, because the new version had been uninstalled, it launched the legacy version. Great.

Your question "why" wasn't clear originally. If you don't uninstall the modern App it will still default to it.

I created the shortcut so I could pin it to the taskbar.

Yes, I can see that now. Uninstalling the modern app defaults to the legacy version, which is what I was after. Sorted. Thanks again.
