BSOD, out of nowhere my monitor goes black & restarts.

On Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1265).

1. Asus Prime X370-Pro, BIOS version 6042. 6042 was installed but the issue happened on earlier BIOS too.
2. 16Gb Corsair DDR4 3466 Mhz -installed 5-years ago. This memory was on the ASUS recommended list for my motherboard.
3. AMD Ryzen 9-3900X 12-Core 3.80Ghz_with BIOS updated, and recommended by ASUS the CPU was installed over a year ago without issues until now.
4. Asus DUAL-RTX2070-O8G-EVO-V2 - installed 2-years ago and no issues until now.
5. Crucial 275 Gb SSD was C drive when the first BSOD occurred. Changed C drive to Samsung 980 SSD 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280, and performed clean install of Windows 11 Pro one week ago. It did not correct issue.
6. Seasonic X750 Gold - installed 5-years ago.
7. Power setting set to Fast Startup Mode is disabled.

BSOD, out of nowhere my monitor goes black & restarts itself. When PC opens to desktop everything seems normal. No stressful PC activity at the time of BSOD.

This is new. The other post was when my PC crashed after being idle for several hours. This happens out of nowhere. Screen goes black, then restarts by itself.

If you have all the info needed in that zip file then one of the BSOD guys will be able to see if there is anything obvious.

Me neither.

The computer has a new Windows installation with unexpected shutdowns and restarts.

There were no dump files or BSOD seen in the collected log files.


Please perform the following steps:


1) Run:

Post share links into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.


2) Swap test the PSU

If the computer becomes stable without unexpected shutdowns and restarts then that will complete the troubleshooting.

If the computer remains unstable then proceed with the additional component testing



4) Run:
Memtest86 (free version) for two tests of four passes each (total eight passes)
or
Memtest86 (pay version) for one test of eight passes

Take pictures > post images or share links into this thread

Memtest86 has a feature to create text/html reports.

If possible, include the reports with the images in the share links.



5) Run:
HD Tune (free or trial version) (all drives)
Post images or share links into this thread displaying results on these tabs:
a) Health
b) Benchmark
c) Full error scan


6) Run:
Sea Tools for Windows (all drives)



Post images or share links into this thread displaying results of the long generic test.



7) Download and install one of these temperature monitoring software:

a) Speccy: Download Speccy | Find your computer specs, free!
b) HW Monitor: HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID
c) SpeedFan: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer


7) Run:
Furmark
(test for 30 continuous minutes and post result images)
Also report the maximum temperature with continuous test duration.

(Make note of the warnings about when to abort Furmark testing)


8) Run:
Prime95
(test for 3 continuous hours and post result images)
Also report the maximum temperature with continuous test duration.

(Make note of the warnings about when to abort Prime95 testing)

PC just crashed at 12:04 EST.
Working in app when screen went black, fans shut off and PC rebooted.

I'm not one of the BSOD guys. That would be zbook, who posted above.


Any time I get a "black screen out of nowhere"... I first check the obvious... loose connection (vid card to monitor), bad cable, etc.
The 2nd thing I always check is the RAM. Re-seat the RAM, check for micro dust in the RAM slots, try running with one stick only, etc.

Thanks. Watching HWMonitor RAM temps @39C, M.2 C drive @ 42C

Let me say I'm as far from being a bsod gal as one can get. Have you recently updated any drivers? I see where you are monitoring temps but have you run the other tools and tests zbook requested. Of course it can be any component, but unless stressing the hardware directly points elsewhere, I always start with the GPU.
If you do a web search for "RTX2070 unexpected shut down" you will find numerous reports for problems with that gpu.

Edited to add-turn off any overclocking

used to happen to me but then at some point a windows update fixed it. My girlfriends PC still does it. Nothing has fixed it. Oh well. I now just suck it up to 2 things, its either a windows issue or its a AMD Radeon software issue, for me anyway. Sorry if I think of anything that can help Ill post help for you.

The Memtest86 ran for just over 5 hours. I believe it did 4 complete tests of the CPU. NO ERRORS. I can do other test(s) tomorrow.

Installing the new M.2 Drive required removing the RXT2070 & reinstalling. There may be a poor connection. I'll check things.

Could be.
But like I said... re-seat the RAM too. Many times black screens are caused by imperfect RAM connections.
