Desktop PC - cpu pegs and pc locks up

@sdkidaho

First do this... (block driver updates)

Do I want to do this part? It wasn't a Windows Update that installed the driver - I downloaded the latest driver from NVidia and installed it.

The problem is that in the past, you probably got a driver from MS without knowing it.
And that probably corrupted your Nvidia driver.

But, by using DDU, you remove all traces of all vid card drivers. So you're starting fresh.

Just uninstalling the previous vid card driver, doesn't clear out all the leftovers. DDU... does.

In the last pic, mine didn't have a choice for the NVIDIA NGX, but everything else was the same. When it finished it said that the PhysX System Software was newer or the same.

I rebooted again after it was finished installing and turned on HWinFO64 - still getting the PCI bus errors.

So... go back to the older Dell driver?

If you do go back to the DELL driver, run DDU again before you install it.

When you troubleshoot, you need to "eliminate" possibilities.
Right now we're trying to eliminate the driver as a possible cause.

You need to make sure you disconnect the internet, like it says in the instructions.

Also... what was your previous vid card? And what is the make/model/wattage, of your power supply?

The old driver is installed again. No errors in the last 21 minutes, so I'm guessing it's ok again.

I haven't changed the video card, it's the same one that came with the system, so that's listed in my specs. The only thing that I've updated is the RAM, from 8gig to 32gig (2 16's).

Replacement parts for the powersupply, that are listed for this model is a 1000w: Alienware Aurora R12 Parts & Upgrades

Tuneup file:

Kaspersky and Malwarebytes uninstalled.
Microsoft Defender up and going.

New Restore point created.

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

What would you recommend for antivirus?

Last shot from HWMonitor and HWiNFO64 for temps and errors (none right now! before they showed up relatively quickly).

While you're waiting for zbook, you should probably re-install Kaspersky, and then use the removal tool to remove it.

When uninstalling any antivirus, always use that company's removal tool.

Shut down, disconnect the power and reseat the cards. Also the option to block Windows Update from installing drivers, is in the Options menu of DDU, IIRC.
