When I open File Explorer, down the left hand side shows all the drives and folders. One of the items is Network as shown in the first attached shot.
The arrow to the left of Network appears at random. Sometimes refresh will get the NAS icon to reappear as in the second shot, but not always. It should always be there.
Any ideas anyone? I should add, the actual NAS is working perfectly.

That is one thing I did not consider.

Open File Explorer and click on the ellipsis (3 dots) and select Options.

Then on the View tab, scroll down to the bottom and enable Show Network.

When you open File Explorer there may be a long delay before your NAS shows up, but once File Explorer has finished scanning your network (slow), it should show your NAS or any other network devices you may have connected to your LAN.

It was already ticked. Maybe it's just slow as you say. Thanks.

When you first install Windows, it is very quick to show your devices, it seems that the device/s are shown as soon as they are discovered, but after you have used Windows for a while or after you install a program or two, then you have to wait until the entire network is scanned, all 255 + addresses, which is quite slow and can take 30 seconds or more.

It is annoying, especially when your intention is to open File Explorer and then access your NAS etc... you have to wait for it to show up ... grrrrrrrr

You could try adding it's details into your Hosts file and it's credentials to Control Panel > Credentials Manager. That's how i've got my remote computers configured.

Fixed. I have added the NAS icon to the start menu thereby avoiding File Explorer. Thanks everyone.
