Greetings-

I am currently using Go-daddy to "host" (not sure if that is the right terminology) my domain name and two emails that are used for my small company.

With Go-daddy I use Office 365 and I am not nuts about it. I just purchased Office 2016 and like that better.

Question. I need a place to park my domain name and I would like to switch to Outlook 2016 using a hosted Exchange.

I am very elementary when it comes to technology so I apologize if I am unclear about anything.

Can anyone give me some input into the above issues?

Thank you.

Hello,
If I understand correcty you'd prefer to use an Exchange based mail system (POP) provider versus a mobile (IMAP) mail system provider.
Is this a right assumption?
Is that what make you like Office 2016 better?
Or Am I totally off?
if that is the case, you just need to set up godaddy outlook clients to this and get rid of the IMAP settings.:

pop.secureserver.net995
smtpout.secureserver.net465

Most companies offer POP,SMTP as well as IMAP so it should not be difficult to find one.
As far as recommending you a company, I'm afraid I would not know.
But be patient, now that we have clarified things, I am sure suggestions will come your way soon.

I thought that GD moved away from POP/SMTP to Exchange a little over a year ago. Of course, if you go with a different email service provider, you could get a POP/SMTP service (or an Exchange service, for that matter) and configure your Outlook 2016 accordingly.

Email services, website hosting, domain name registration, SSL certification (the 's' in https) etc etc are all different services, and GD conveniently offers them all. However, if you have to cobble the different services from different companies, I am not sure if the total will be less $

The GD default is apparently Exchange, the following is quoted from the link you posted

"We recommend only enabling SMTP Authentication for user accounts that require it since your default Exchange settings are more secure."

I would suggest the OP to stay with the default Exchange settings, and if they really can't live with it, rather than changing the defaults, they may be better off to move to a POP/SMTP service provider.

I called Go-daddy. They said it was outside the scope of what they do.

At this point if I could get several recommendations for another vendor, similar to Go-daddy which provides for me using my Outlook 2016 that would be great.

Thank you.

Here is a review of email service providers, there are other reviews of course

Note, however, that with these email service providers, you generally get email addresses like

smorton@outlook.com
mycompany@yahoo.com

To get customized email addresses like

smorton@mycompany.com
info@mycompany.com

is more involved, you need the help from the email service provider to get your domain name in your email address (each email service provider does things a little different) and you will lose several days of emails because it takes time to redirect things on the net.

Other things to consider:

- gmail did not play well with Outlook, perhaps things are better now, but I doubt it

- maybe you can live with a compromise email addresses like

mycompany@hotmail.com
mycompanysmorton@hotmail.com

And there are other considerations ... if you tell more about what you do with your emails ... maybe I (or others) can say more ...

I know less than zero about web hosting myself. It's good to have everyone's ideas on the matter, but maybe talking directly with someone in your area who specializes in web design could give better one on one insight to what 'host' would serve your needs best.

Thanks again.

I can understand that, but when it's online ...............doesn't make much difference! I've been using them for many years for domain names. And have an email address via them too. The settings are straightforward to use and their customer service is pretty good and quick as well.
