How to pass the Windows 11 Compatibility Checks


Hallo,
Yesterday i have done a CleanInstall with 22000.194 on my Lenovo P50,
According to pc healthcheck, the I7 CPU is annoyingly not compatible, in the BIOS I have set:
UEFI/LEGACY Both,
No SecureBoot,
TPM v.1.2
The USB stick connected, the bypass registry file ready, but oh you are amazed, the setup ran completely loosely without complaining, maybe 12-15min.
Question:
how is this possible again? :)
I had created the stick with Rufus with the German iso from here:
Windows 11 22000 ISO / ESD inkl. Updates (deutsch, english)

If you are using modified install media it will bypass the checks. MS has stated this (registry hack) will be removed in the GA release.

Hi friends! I try to install Win11 on laptop without TPM, I download offline Insider enroll tool, signed to Beta Ring, and when I go to check for updates i got Win11. But there is a problem. After some time, I got Windows 11 Update windows, where Update check hardware compatibility, so I get error "The PC must support TPM2.0". I got that error in july on another PC, but then swap appraiserres.dll in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources, and install process continue without problem.

But now, that method not work anymore. Any idea how to bypass TPM check?

I updated to 22463 Dev build this week using an iso with appaiserres.dll deleted. Seems to bypass all checks.

Also Win11 run smooth on my Pavilion 17 laptop. I only get one bug in Windows Update after install, when Check for updates, I constantly get KB5005635 update (build 22000.194), and get error while install. Probably because I have this build installed. In winver under Version I have 22000.194.

know this error also from Windows 10, just install, should be done, so with me, after restart. Yes, Windows spins quite a bit, nice that it worked.(y)

Since W11 is not far away, I have put together a desktop which will be complient with Microsofts specification.

Ryzen 3200G
MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX
16 Gb Corsair 2400 15-15-15-39
M2 WD Black SN750 500 Gb
W10 pro 64

W10 is running and fully activated.

When I went to change the bios setting "boot mode select" from legacy + UEFI to UEFI things went badly wrong. Not only did Windows fail at boot up, but the bios stuck on and only powering down would get things running. The only way to get back was to revert to legacy + UEFI.

I could try a fresh install of Windows with just UEFI set.

Having just re read the first post, I wonder if I should have set secure boot before setting UEFI.

It sounds like you have installed Windows 10 in Legacy/MBR mode and that's why it can't boot in UEFI-only mode. It needs to be a UEFI/GPT install of W10 in order to upgrade to W11.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

You may have to convert the system disk from MBR to GPT. This tutorial shows you how Convert Windows 10 from Legacy BIOS to UEFI without Data Loss

My W10 system as described in post #212 is now qualified for the W11 upgrade when it arrives. Thanks to several members work arounds and some careful reading of their instructions, I have been into my Microsoft account and they have confirmed that it is set up ok.
All of the Windows partitions are now GPT.

So, I just updated my not compatible Surface Book w/ Performance Base ( Core i7-6600U CPU flagged as not compatible ) by removing the appraiserres.dll from the USB Stick ( 22000.194 ) and only just now started wondering if there's something I should be looking out for?

Immediately after the Upgrade I saw 3 Updates ready for installation so that portion appears to be still working fine? Ya kno'... With Updates supposedly not available to incompatible devices and stuff? 🤔

I believe the issue with updates (automatic updates only), is for the RTM versions of Windows 11. You are on the beta version, right now.

In other words... MS will stop automatic updates for the RTM version of Win 11, on non-compliant computers.
They can still be manually updated of course.

So regardless of if we manage to upgrade incompatible devices to W11 ( currently upgrading the same Surface Book with the Media Creation Tool downloaded files - But again disabled the Checker via removal of the appraiserres.dll ) they'll simply disable Automatic Updates to those devices from their side via their servers? 🤔

I mean... I can get behind their reasoning for the need of TPM 2.0 and the likes but what's the point with not allowing an Upgrade because of a CPU being too old ( that being the only thing the Checker complained about on my old Surface Book )? Especially with my SB's CPU deficiency being only its age/generation, not the Speed ( requirement of 1GHz surpassed by 2.6x ) or Core Count ( requirement of 2 met ). 🤨
