IMO a lot of the newer PCs (not just laptops) are not built to last. That's why I started a thread for people to list those vintage PCs that were tried and tested and have passed the test of time. THE LEGENDS

I build my own PCs but my eyes are not so good and building laptops can be tricky as everything is so small and cramped. For this reason I purchased my latest laptop brand new from Dell and I can honestly say I'm not that impressed. I got it because it was one of the few laptops that would still run a CD/DVD ROM drive but I never considered what I might have to go through to replace the battery in this device. I dread the day when that time comes. Anyway, to answer your question in your earlier post, YES. Ryzen does have generations like Intel. One of the better things about Ryzen is that it is more flexible with a number of system boards in that generally a number of generations can be used on the same board so the user does not always have to purchase a new system board to match the newer generation CPU. Admittedly, this is more germane to PCs than to AMD laptops but at least AMD offers this sort of flexibility. I've heard Intel has attempted to do this too but only recently.

Intel 100 Series Mobile Chipsets date back more than 8 years ago (Q3 2015 to be precise), yet these could support both 6th gen (Skylake) and 7th gen (Kaby Lake) Intel Mobile CPUs already back then (even though this didn't also mean that users could upgrade the CPU in their laptop of course, but anyway... one could argue that it still benefitted consumers up to a certain degree due to cutting the cost of laptop motherboard design/manufacturing I guess). Reason I know this was possible much earlier than "only recently" is because my previous old laptop (purchased new in early January 2018) had a Core i5-7200U (i.e., Kaby Lake-U) CPU and a HM175 (i.e., Skylake) chipset.

£680 seems steep for a laptop that was released in June of 2021.

I bought a HP with AMD CPU for my daughter back when she was in high school
and it carried her all the way through. Let us know when you get it.

Thanks. Yes it is a bit small - I usually prefer 14" laptops - but the 16:10 screen should help overcome any crick in the neck from a smaller laptop! I don't like the 16:9 13" ones for that reason. I still don't expect it to last much more than 4 or 5 years, based on the last couple of thin laptops.

That's incredible. The laptop must be brand spankin' new. Not having experience with that specific device I can't rightly say if that's price gouging or not. Still, there are some units that really do pass the test of time and are worthy of recognition. Perhaps that laptop is one of them.

I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

As you already know, I have one and can say that it is still in excellent condition. As I also said, this notebook
has never left my desk while it was in full use. Very heavy and battery life is about 1hr 15 minutes on a full charge
while playing games such as CoD. Movies , you can get through a 1hr.30 minute movie but, that is really stretching it.
The beauty of the case is what I think got allot of gamers to buy it plus the keyboard backlighting was a big plus at
least for me. And, (not sure) but, I think this was the first i7M to be installed in a notebook. (2010).

Yes it's too small - it's going back :rolleyes: Not good for my eyesight. It's also incredibly flimsy. So on the look out for another used one.

Here is another example crucial mx300 1tb £259.44 at Amazon. The more recent crucial mx500 1 tb is currently £80 at Amazon.
